Where Next For Kevin Pietersen?

Which is the point I was trying to raise in the feature, and specifically not the words Ben tried putting into my mouth.

When one player spends a year and a half scoring bucketloads of runs and the other spends the year scoring SFA, it's not "revisionism" to say that Clarke's now achieved more than KP has. Clarke's played 21 matches since the beginning of the last Aussie summer and averaged 61- it's not like we're changing our minds as the result of a knee-jerk, this purple patch constitutes over a third of Clarke's entire test career. It's a pretty significant increase in what we can say he's achieved, particularly with the phenomenal Ashes tour thrown in. And this has coincided with an unprecedented lean streak in KP's career. If you're going to consider KP's current blip as anomalous you at least have to do the same with Clarke's runs of poor form, lest you slide into Richard territory. And while I, as you know, agree that KP is pure class, Clarke oozes brilliance from every pore when he bats. We're comparing two seriously good batsmen here.
This thread seems to have descended into pointless bickering but will just say agree with all of this. Clarke is seriously good even if some people do not want to admit that yet and Pietersen is one hell of a player. we all know this

Both sets of fans seem to have a somewhat uneasy relationship with these two players which at times leads to undue criticism, but both are wonderfull players.

Which means that Clarke has had seven of his innings cut short which if he had been able to complete them he may have scored more runs per innings than Pietersen.
Your original post in this debate with me implied that KP couldn't be better because his average is lower. This isn't merely an untruth because I am an England fan, it's an untruth because it is an untruth.

There are many examples of averages not telling the whole story. Right now there is a Donald v Waqar thread in which numerous people have cited Waqar despite Donald averaging lower with the bowling.

Murali has a better average than Warne. Ponting better than Lara. Graham Thorpe better than Mark Waugh, and so on and so on.

In all fairness, I think Ross Taylor could average as much as Clarke if he was Australian. Playing for New Zealand is a handicap. New Zealand are a pissweak Test side and they don't have the easiest batting conditions in world cricket.

.
I have spelt this out before and will do so again.

You stated that Pietersen was the SUPERIOR batsman, my response was you would EXPECT the superior batsman to have the higher average.

I dont know where you come up with KP couldent be better and if you read the thread you are the only one that has said this so the only one making untrue statements is you..

I have made it quite clear that I dont think either batsman can be called better at this stage of their careers and you agreed with me so why you should go and post this rubbish makes no sense..

I dont think Taylor would get a green baggy cap if he was Australian.

Please, there's no need to express opinions about a Test team in that sort of language. It's just going to be inflammatory.

Nowhere as good as North but thats for another thread.
If Taylor was an Aussie I highly doubt whether he'd debut till he was at least 28. Rossco is still only 26 so will probably be close to his purple patch in batting in 2 or so years time.

When Hussey retires perhaps?

This, of course, assumes he's scored a mountain of FC runs.

That sort of language? Never thought of the word "piss" as a curse word. No problems, I'll say urine next time.

FTR, New Zealand is a weak Test team, but a good ODI team.

Yeah this but I think Taylor would enjoy Australian conditions tbh. I'd say he'd do better than any other NZer, don't see Ryder doing the hard yards through the Aussie FC system.
