Obviously I was talking **** about the reasons for the rename, but it's a genuinely hilarious change.

Dates for junior rep trials announced today and included a “warning” that preliminary squads have already been chosen so places are limited

First round of the Shield is on 10/10 and I dont think Australia is playing any cricket so the teams might be close to full strength for a change.

There are going to be some stacked teams and some interesting decisions.

Im curious where say Shaun Marsh bats for WA or Aaron Finch for Vic. Does Cummins take the new ball or does Starc and Haze. Does Carey bat at 5 or 6 or is he happy at 7?

I would be surprised if Carey batting at 6 in the SACA side wasn't considered due to the sheer lack of middle order batting options. It's looking fairly uninspiring for 2019/20, can't help but expect more of the same from the batting lineup especially if Head is away on national duties for large chunks of the season. Lehmann blew hot and cold all season, CalFerg could hardly buy a run and Cooper did his usual thing of doing nothing for a handful of games and then making a ton just as he's about to be dropped. The problem with promoting Carey is what to do with 7? Don't really fancy any of the bowling attack up at 7, that just makes a fragile batting lineup even more unsteady, but I can't really think of any batsman available who wouldn't be lagrely redundant down there. Not sure how they will approach that one

I guess Cam Valente could bat at 7 but I did argue against that last year haha.

In a team with 4 bowlers, i would want Carey to bite the bullet and just bat at 5.

I dont really mind if Cooper or a Nielsen (as a specialist bat) bats behind him.

Nielsen as a specialist batsman may not be the worst shout actually, made an impressive ton on Shield debut (had played for the Greg Chappell invitational XI beforehand though) so he can bat at the level required. I like Valente, but he is a bit too much like early days Ryan Harris where he is a genuine allrounder at grade level, but neither here nor there at First Class cricket. Unlike early Harris though I tend to think his batting is far more likely to kick on than his bowling which is really more suited to limited overs stuff

Valente has a weird habit of making one-day hundreds for a guy who isn't really that good a bat

Ehh he's alright, can look a bit bottom handed and slicey but has a good eye and can really accelerate on his day. Definitely in the 50 over side but needs to actually make runs against bowlers better than your standard Adelaide grade plodder or dart thrower. One of said one day domestic tons was against the Greg Chappell invitational XI after all.

Frankly I would be satisfied if he can become the latter day Joe Scuderi tbh, still has a way to go

National Performance Squad: Tom Andrews (SA), Oliver Davies (NSW), Dan Fallins (NSW), Jake Fraser-McGurk (Vic), Cameron Green (WA), Ryan Hadley (NSW), Lachlan Hearne (NSW), Josh Inglis (WA), Ben McDermott (Tas), Jonathon Merlo (Vic), Todd Murphy (Vic), Josh Philippe (WA), Lloyd Pope (SA), Jhye Richardson (WA)

They are playing 3 one day games and 3 T20 games against MRF Academy teams. Richardson is working with Glenn McGrath apparently.

Does anyone have anything interesting to say about the guys yet to play domestic cricket?

International Captain
Jhye Richardson, from Test bowler to National Performance squad, what's the point. He should have went for a county contract by replacing Pattinson or Siddle

More Adelaide Grade news, Will Bosisto is moving over here to play for Uni in first grade. No SACA contract but it wouldn't surprise me if he does get a couple games at some point. Genuinely rated him as an U19 but he never really kicked on, couple good innings but was always in and out of the WA side.
