The sporting careers of non-famous siblings of famous cricketers

We have all heard of Eric Bedser, Alec's twin, who played years of county cricket without making the English team and more recently Dean Waugh.

But I heard recently of Ricky Ponting's brother and I was wondering did he play much cricket ? Which then lead to wondering about Don Bradman's brother. I think Victor Trumper also had a brother.

What sport does Kane Williamson's brother play and is he serious about it ?

So do you know any stories of siblings who played sport, cricket or not, and was it serious or just social ?

Greg Page, the original yellow wiggle, played park cricket. So did his non-famous cousin.

Leslie Compton kept wicket for Middlesex. He was there for their Championship winning season of 1947. Like his brother he also played for Arsenal.

In the mid 60s Garry Sobers was the greatest cricketer on the planet and on a Saturday afternoon somewhere in Lancashire in 1968 my Dad was due to play against him in a charity match - 'twas of course a family outing and I watched in awe as the mighty Sobers strutted his stuff, although to my six year old eyes he didn't look anything like as impressive as all the hype suggested he would - anyway I told this story for years and then when I was at Uni someone asked me a question about it which meant I had to go back to my Dad on it - he took the wind right out of my sails by telling me that his opponent that day was Gerry Sobers, the great man's older brother, who he conceded did look like Garry, but didn't play cricket like him - he did claim to have explained this to me many times as a child - if he did I clearly never listened - I sometimes wonder if there are still 50 somethings that I was at school with who tell their grandchildren that they went to school with someone whose Dad had played against Sobers - I feel quite guilty when I do

So one Aussie opener has knocked beers with Root and the other has simply knocked Root out. Nice.

I think Dave Warner's brother played a bit of 1st grade at Easts - he of "escapegoat" fame.

Jackson Bird's older brother was an OK cricketer, very good photographer and still lends his time to Manly Warringah CC taking photos of their games.

Jon Holland's brother is a golf pro.
