***Official*** South Africa in New Zealand 2012

Nichol looks a massive LBW candidate. Planting his front pad and almost bringing the bat across from off rather than down straight.
A carryover from his limited-overs style where he looks to hit through the leg side at any given opportunity, and only accesses the off side when he absolutely has to.

Nicol had to bat at 5 if he was going to bat anywhere. Not the technique to open at Test level.

I hope Jimmy Franklin goes massive in the Plunket Shield game at the Basin and is called in.

Philander would be scary on a first day wicket with a lot of grass on it. The guy is 26, where had he been previously? A late bloomer or overlooked because of better options ahead of him?

I'm sure Philander was in South Africa's ODI side the last time they toured England, and he looked absolutely ****house.

He's always been quality at first class level, but had poor performances in ODIs and 'fitness' problems so was overlooked

Overlooked for a variety of reasons really - supposed lack of pace, a reputation as a bit of a ****, terrible fielding and the fact that he looked awful when he was given a go in one day cricket. His home pitch is also known as being particularly bowler-friendly.

His domestic performance has always been exceptionally strong though.

What happened to that Kiwi who lost his front teeth at Old Trafford?
Just come back from injury. He's hit a century in first class recently as well so hopefully he scores some more runs in his next Plunket Shield game. Way better than Nicol.
