Tim Bresnan might be able to now. Shows how low Ponting has dropped to of late. Be a sad way for a great player to go out if he gets dropped soon.

He's had some success in the ODIs, though not much, which suggests he's not gone completely.. He's obviously in poor form/too old atm but I wouldn't say Bresnan's a better batsmen

To be fair, he is a better one than all others mentioned in the thread bar Kallis.

Still mentioned in this thread.

And Mail took 7/16 or something similar in a first grade match a couple of weeks ago. Counts as a bowler now for sure.

I was going on the quick bowlers as per thread title. Silly choices were ignored.

It sad really that a thread like this was even started for a great player like Ponting, and that is what he has been a GREAT player. For many the best bat of the awesome Aussie side that dominated and he lead from the front with his bat even if he annoyed with some of his ranting/lack of captaincy nous.

Crazy to see his average go to 52-53...it was pushing 60 for a long long time there.

yea when there's guys like sameeraweera who avg 54?

and guys like gambhir, cook, bell, smith, kp, younis khan, mahela who avg 50 ....

hope his stubborness doesn't lead to him losing another couple of points..i.e he should retire if things don't improve for him over the next month.

he'd be a forgotton hero if he finished up with a avg of like 50/51

Yeah, and future generations won't believe us when we go on about how good he actually was when so many from the same era will average the same or more.
