Ashraful named as new captain

Bangladesh have named Mohammad Ashraful as their new captain after previous captain Habibul Bashar stepped down after the India series. Mashrafe Mortaza has been named as vice-captain.

A Bangladesh spokesman told the BBC that “The board has named Mohammad Ashraful as captain of both one-day and Test teams as it wants the team to be led by one captain.”

The spokesman went onto say “With his captaincy, Bangladesh cricket enters a new era. The board is confident Ashraful will lead by example and take the country’s cricket to a new height. He is a talented batsman and has all the abilities to be a very good leader.”

Bangladesh’s next series is against Sri Lanka in late June where three Tests and three one-day internationals will be played.
