Taylor likely for Ireland game
James Nixon |Ross Taylor is expected to be fit for New Zealand’s next World Cup Super Eight match against Ireland on 9th April.
With Taylor likely to come straight back into the team, it appears as though Peter Fulton could be the one to miss out, with Hamish Marshall scoring a moral boosting 50 not out against Bangladesh and having the added bonus of being a superb fielder.
Fulton has struggled with the bat since coming into the team for Taylor scoring 45 against Canada, a duck against the West Indies and a disappointing 15 from 30 balls against Bangladesh.
Stephen Fleming gave the Canterbury batsman a ray of hope however saying “I’m not overly concerned, Pete’s been in good form. We’ve asked him to do a role that’s a little bit foreign to him and it takes time to adjust. He just needs to find a tempo at the top of the innings.”
Michael Mason who left the field with a calf strain during his second over against Bangladesh appears to not be overly troubled by the injury, but should he be unfit for the next match against Ireland, it opens the door for the fit again Mark Gillespie and Chris Martin.
Martin appears to be the front runner with Gillespie not having played any cricket in the past four weeks, while Martin has come off the back of a domestic season with Canterbury.
