Symonds to have wrist surgery

Andrew Symonds will have minor surgery on his wrist on Wednesday after managing the injury throughout the Australian summer.

Queensland Cricket Manager Matthew Fention said the recent heavy schedule had only made the injury worse, and with the players now having a decent break, it is the perfect time to have it sorted out.

The surgery will sideline Symonds for six weeks.

Australia start another heavy schedule of cricket in October with the Champions Trophy in India followed by the Ashes, the VB Series and the World Cup in the Caribbean.
