Styris out of Com Bank Series

Scott Styris has pulled his calf muscle before play in a State Shield domestic match between the Auckland Aces and Canterbury Wizards earlier today.

How the injury occurred is un-clear but the timing is awful for all involved with Styris about to be flown off to Australia to join the Black Caps squad for the Commonwealth Bank Series.

It is understood that Styris will now miss the entire series and will look to make his international return during the Chappell-Hadlee series in February.

Styris had performed well in domestic cricket recently having scored 74 off 81 balls for Auckland on Tuesday, but even then, there were signs that he was struggling after pulling up lame following the innings.

With Shane Bond having back problems, Ross Taylor suffering cramp problems and James Franklin suffering with fitness levels, it continues to get worse for the Black Caps with all three players likely to miss New Zealand’s next CB Series match against Australia on Sunday.

There is one positive however with Jacob Oram being expected to be flown over to Australia within the next couple of days after returning to domestic cricket by scoring 70 with the bat and 2-40 with the ball.
