Rain washes away Dutch hopes

Torrential rain was the decider in Belfast during the ODI game between Scotland and the Netherlands which was called off after just 22 overs had been bowled. Scotland were teetering at 71/5 when the rain struck, driving the players off the field and denying Netherlands the chance to push for victory.

The Dutch bowled and fielded well, on the back of an inspired performance by star all rounder Ryan ten Doeschate who claimed 3/25 as he once again showed what a dominant force he can be. Ten Doeschate had been released by Essex for one game against Scotland and showed why he had developed a cult following, his combination of swing and seam destroying the opposition top order.

With Jan-Hendrik Mol also turning in a good performance, taking 2/17, the Netherlands were in a dominant position and looking to push for victory before the rain interrupted proceedings. The Dutch have finished their tour and will return home shortly, while Scotland have a clash against Ireland on Sunday to look forward to.
