Sharma replaces Chawla

Rohit Sharma, the middle order batsman from Mumbai, has been drafted into the Indian ODI squad in place of the injured Piyush Chawla and will join the squad for the second ODI next month. Chawla had been advised to rest for six weeks after hurting his ankle during a practice session at the World Twenty20.

Sharma was omitted from the original 15 man squad, but after putting in a solid performance during the final of the World Twenty20 has found himself back in the reckoning. The young batsman is regarded as one of India’s finest prospects, particularly in the limited overs game, and will be keen to make an impact against Australia.

The first game of the seven match series starts on the 29th of October.
