Proteas struggling with injuries

South Africa are hoping several key players recover in time for the tri-series with Sri Lanka and India starting next Monday.

Shaun Pollock is struggling with a sore lower back and Mark Boucher with an injured left elbow, while Makhaya Nitini is not over his hamstring injury he suffered during the second Test against Sri Lanka earlier this week.

Although Pollock and Boucher are expected to recover for the first match of the tri-series against Sri Lanka on Monday, fast bowler Dale Steyn has been called into the squad as cover.

South Africa coach Mickey Arthur is hopeful that the treatment Nitini is receiving and the injury being closely monitored will mean he’ll come through and be ready for selection for the first match.

South Africa play a Sri Lanka Academy XI on Friday in preparation for the tri-series.

Mark Boucher (captain), Boeta Dippenaar, Loots Bosman, Herschelle Gibbs, AB de Villiers, Shaun Pollock, Johan van der Wath, Robin Petersen, Andrew Hall, Andre Nel, Makhaya Ntini, Ashwell Prince, Roger Telemachus, Thandi Tshabalala
