McGrath set to prove his fitness

Glenn McGrath is to prove his fitness to the Australian national selectors later this week with a spell of bowling at outdoor nets in Brisbane.

McGrath has been out of all cricket for six months missing the tours of South Africa and Bangladesh to care for his wife after she got re-diagnosed with cancer.

McGrath’s wife is making a strong recovery and she has given him her full backing to making a comeback into international cricket.

Australian coach John Buchanan has said he’s looking forward to seeing where McGrath is at with his bowling, and says there is a plan to have him ready for the first Ashes Test on 23 November.

However, McGrath himself has set himself the goal of making his comeback for Australia in the ICC Champions Trophy in India in October.

McGrath’s last game for Australia was a one-day international against Sri Lanka in late January at the WACA ground in Perth.
