McGrath not retiring just yet
James Nixon |Glenn McGrath has dismissed claims that he is about to retire saying “I’m just preparing for these next two test matches, then it’s the one-day series and then I’ll take it from there.”
Rumours have circulated throughout the media that McGrath was to join Warne in announcing his retirement after the current Ashes series.
Various Australian newspapers have said that McGrath will retire from Test cricket after the Ashes cricket but continue playing one-day international cricket through to the end of the one-day World Cup in March/April next year in the West Indies.
McGrath told media sources that “I’m just preparing for these next two test matches, then it’s the one-day series and then I’ll take it from there.”
“I’m still enjoying it. I’m still loving playing and I’ve still got a lot of cricket in me.”
Ricky Ponting also came in one on the discussion of McGrath’s retirement saying “I actually sat next to him on the plane today and he can’t believe some of the attention and some of the things that have been written in the paper.”
“I certainly haven’t had the conversation with Glenn that I had with Shane the other night so that would to me indicate that he’s thinking about playing a bit longer yet.”
The next Ashes Test starts in Melbourne on Boxing Day.
