Jayasuriya surprisely omitted

Sanath Jayasuriya has been surprisely omitted for Sri Lanka’s tour match against Sussex starting today at Hove.

Jayasuriya reversed his decision to retire from Test cricket and joined the Sri Lankan squad mid-way through the first Test at Lord’s, and had been expected to play against Sussex in a view to him getting some match practice ahead of the second Test at Edgbaston.

It is now thought that due to the Sri Lankan batting lineup performing well in the second innings of the first Test that youth should win out with Michael Vandort and Jehan Mubarak fighting for the opening spot alongside Upul Tharanga.

Tillakaratne Dilshan is to be rested from the game to recover from a mild hamstring injury, while Muttiah Muralitharan and Chaminda Vaas would also be rested due to their expected heavy workload in the rest of the tour Sri Lankan coach Tom Moody said.

Sri Lanka – (probable team to play Sussex)
Upul Tharanga, Jehan Mubarak, Michael Vandort, Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene (captain), Thilan Samaraweera, Prasanna Jayawardene, Lasith Malinga, Nuwan Zoysa, Malinga Bandara, Farveez Maharoof.
