Jayasuriya misses out

Sanath Jayasuriya has missed out on selection for the second Test against England, with Michael Vandort coming into the 12 in place of Jehan Mubarak.

Mubarak struggled in the first Test at Lord’s in scoring just 0 and 6. Sri Lankan captain Mahela Jayawardene said that Vandort deserved a chance, as they look towards building a secure opening partnership that can play consistently over the next four to five years.

Left arm seam bowler Lasith Malinga has also been named in the 12 after a successful recent tour-match against Sussex where he took 5-79 in Sussex’s only innings of the match.

The Test starts tomorrow at Edgbaston in Birmingham and with bad weather forecast, another draw would well be on the cards.

England (likely)
Marcus Trescothick, Andrew Strauss, Alastair Cook, Kevin Pietersen, Paul Collingwood, Andrew Flintoff (captain), Geraint Jones, Liam Plunkett, Matthew Hoggard, Sajid Mahmood, Monty Panesar
