“I want the captaincy” says Vaughan

Michael Vaughan has said he wants the captaincy back after being named in the squad for the Commonwealth Bank Series involving Australia, England and New Zealand starting next month.

Andrew Flintoff and Andrew Strauss have been England captains in Vaughan’s absence with Flintoff having currently lead England to a failed Ashes campaign.

Although Flintoff’s failure in the Ashes, and the criticism he has received for his captaincy from the English media, Flintoff has said he wants to continue in the role.

Vaughan told a news conference on Friday “If it was made available, God, I reckon it’s one of the best jobs in the world.”

“But I’m sure ‘Freddie’ (Flintoff) and Andrew Strauss would be saying exactly the same thing, so it will be a tough decision for them to make.”

Vaughan still has to pass a fitness test to confirm his inclusion in the team and is confident he will do so after saying he’s been really pleased with his progress over the last few weeks.
