Gayle picks up WIndies award

Chris Gayle has been named the West Indies player of the year at the teams annual awards night in Bridgetown, Barbados yesterday.

Gayle had a superb year scoring 1217 runs in 32 one-day internationals at an average of 41.96 with four hundreds and four fifties, while with the ball he took 29 wickets at an average of 33.44 with an economy rate of 4.21.

In Test cricket Gayle also showed his class scoring 690 runs from 10 Tests at an average of 38.33 with six fifties while taking six wickets at an average of 43.41.

Jerome Taylor picked up the emerging player of the year award.
