Ganguly brought in from the cold

Sourav Ganguly has been recalled for the upcoming Test series against South Africa while VVS Laxman has also been recalled and named vice-captain ahead of Virender Sehwag.

Gautam Gambhir and VRV Singh have also been named while Mohammad Kaif, Suresh Raina, Dinesh Mongia and Ajit Agarkar who are currently on tour with the one-day squad will return home.

Ganguly told reporters “I am happy to be back. I have done well for 10 years and it’s always a challenge playing international cricket.”

Former skipper Mohinder Amarnath backed the inclusion of Ganguly and Laxman saying “Ganguly is not old, he is an experienced player and India needs him and Laxman. Lets hope they do well.”

Ganguly has played 88 Tests for India and scored 5221 runs at an average of 40.78 while Laxman has scored 4698 runs from 77 Tests at an average of 42.70.
