Dhoni named new one-day captain

Mahendra Dhoni has been named India’s new one-day cricket after Rahul Dravid resigned last week after two years in charge.

Chief selector Dilip Vengsarkar said in the media announcement that “We thought he was the best man for the job. He will have three former captains in the ranks who would give him full support. You are talking about having three captains – Azharuddin had five former captains under him when he led India in England.”

Vengsarkar went onto say “Dhoni is young and will adapt well to the ODIs. He will be captain for the next 12 one-dayers.”

Australia tour India next month for seven one-day internationals.
