Also Maximas and Yorks - remember my pet theory you only need 4 quality batsman but all 4 have to be good enough to ton up without it shocking you. And then you just need a couple of rple players and at least the batting should be covered. You have listed 4 good batsman in your post above.

I guess you know that already which is why most of the concern is on the bowling front.

Yeah the batting is good from 2-6, probably still pretty good in Aus/NZ conditions, it's just the bowling that is worrying me, plus I think the lack of decent second opener might undermine the batting a bit which could put us under a lot of pressure in a big chase or something

Yes, you're spot on with that mate..i wonder whether kusal will play better with the ball coming onto the bat quicker rather than having to go after it? Maximas-its funny isnt it, before last summer's series, i spent a lot of time trying to argue that Tharanga should be in adn you the opposite and we both seem to have done an about turn for the WC !!

Tharanga as an opener I'll never support, but him as a middle order player with Chandiguns and everyone else out of form leaves us with few other options haha, my u-turn on Lakmal from the start of the UAE series to the end of it was even worse tbh

do you know what the fitness situation with lakmal is at the mo?Also i have a sneaky feeling that chandiguns will come good on the quicker wickets as hehas traditionally done well on those types of wickets..hope we give him a decent chance in the NZ series matches..

Kusal is trying to make me look bad:ph34r: anyone who has played the game knows opening is half in the mind so hope he will come thru it...

Have to go two spinners when they are as good as Senna and Herath. Good spin still goes well in Australia, especially when with Senna it can be used in the PP.

Yes exactly, even though we lost today, he bowled very tightly and if he and herath can tie down 20overs going at 3-4 and picking up a couple of wickets along the way, it certainly makes life easierfor the rest of the bowling attack..

Thisara Perera at 7 and 4 genuine bowlers?
Yeah, probably.

Only way you can get away with two specialist spinners is if you are prepared to bowl one of them in dangerous overs (i.e. batting powerplay and at some stage in the last 8 overs). Think SL can do that.

Looks like Lakmal has stormed into the reckoning, will need to see how he goes in NZ but if he can bowl at the death he's perfect, a bit of a shame he can't bat though

He has bowled very well in both games so far hasn't he, brings a bit of life to the quicker bowlers..he will do well at the WC if he can stay fit...

The selectors are still pretty interested in picking Kula for the WC, he's been working pretty hard on his action and doing well in List A cricket back in Sri Lanka, just took 4/30 in the final of the one day competition, encouraging signs as well really need him fit and firing if we are to progress beyond the quarter finals IMO

nah his time is gone and it will be a huge mistake if the likes of Lakmal / Eranga/ Prasad lose a spot to him..He has been a great servant to our cricket but his time is finished and we should look to the future..our domestic circuit is so weak that perfomances there can appear flattering

He's been probably among the top 4-5 most important players in our ODI set-up for a good 7 or 8 years now, if he's fit and firing (which I don't know if he is but it's worth finding out) he provides us with so much, his bowling gives us wickets upfront and control throughout, while he can hold a bat down the order and clear the boundary, would be fantastic utility down at 8. As much as the I talk up the likes of the guys mentioned none of them are proven ODI performers, and none of them are no 8 quality batsmen.

Randiv perfectly fits the bill for no 8. If he takes batting bit more seriously would be quite good.
