“Over 1,000 primary school boys and girls have already been exposed to ‘Five for Fun’ cricket training enabling them the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of the game. From a cricket perspective, both CWI and GCB are excited about giving our children the opportunity to play and learn the game in fun, safe environments. From all feedback for coaches, teachers and some parents, the children are excited about the programme, and can’t wait to showcase their skills during the first stage of matches at the zonal preliminaries."

- Reon King, the former Guyana and West Indies player is the representative of Cricket West Indies (CWI) and the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) as the programme coordinator

75 PRIMARY SCHOOLS ACROSS GUYANA TRAINING FOR ‘REPUBLIC BANK FIVE FOR FUN CRICKET’ ZONAL PRELIMINARIES AND COUNTY FINALS

This is great to see. An awesome initiative in developing players in grassroots cricket.

has there been a more wasted career than Darren Bravo?

"The new Headley Weekes Series will follow the West Indies Championship and will feature three matches and three teams. Team Headley and Team Weekes will select from the best performers in the 2023 West Indies Championship and players outside the starting West Indies Test XI. The new West Indies Academy will provide the third team in the new Series."

Looks like we'll have something new after the West Indies Championship.

I'm still hoping for a couple of years high performance towards the end of his career. He will always be a limited legside player but it the right circumstances he could add a lot of value. His off side play is still glorious. Put it this way, I would much rather have him in the middle order than Reifer or Chase.

Really looking forward to that, I think it's a great idea. I just hope they show some foresight and invite Pooran and King to take part as well!

Devon Thomas somehow snagged 5-22 to bowl Barbados out for 78 on a deck they previously made 350 on. What on earth is wrong with Windies domestic battingl

What PEWS said plus Rakheem the dream at the other end causing madness so they felt under pressure against......Devon Thomas!

The only other thing I would say with more seriousness is that the harder Dukes ball in the Caribbean can swing round corners at certain periods of the day, particularly for medium pacers. It's why we are becoming like England over the decades, with a whole bunch of skillfull medium fast bowlers who flounder whenever we have to use the kooka. I didn't see that feed but it is possible then Thomas got the ball to move around.

In better news Alick Athanaze has backed up his pre South Africa form with an 80 and a 97. He would be a real breath of fresh air in our side of nurdlers and grinders. He will frustrate at times though playing one shot too many, but he does put bowlers under pressure and plays sweeps and reverse sweeps pretty well, which is rare for us. I think he should be in the side against India.

When did WI switch to the Dukes ball? WI haven't produced much in the way of worthwhile pace bowlers since Bishop.

In any case better pitches would mean it doesn't matter. The current Bridgetown pitch is an absolute disgrace.

We switched in 2018. It's a harder version of the English dukes so it can last longer on our pitches.

That ball swings even more than the English dukes IMHO. It's enabled the likes of Holder, Roach and more recently Seales to dominate at home but it's a big reason why they look toothless away (though Seales is untested tbf).

WI failed to produce decent bowlers for a long time before that so I'd say it's not to blame.
