Can't be arsed to look this up, on this tragic day, but didn't the Aussies themselves ban their heathen races from knighthooid at one point?

I'm guessing India might be the same.

Indian government doesn't allow anyone to except any foreign titles, actually any title.

There was a campaign (at least by Punch magazine) for WG to be knighted in 1895 though I don’t think it was seriously considered. According to one source he was also on the list of prominent people to be offered peerages by the liberal government in 1911 to pack the House of Lords in its dispute with the Commons though in the end this was not necessary.

Yeah Aussies banned knighthoods. They then opened it back up in 2015 and I expected Richie Benaud to be knighted, but Tony Abbott knighted the Queens hubby Prince Phillip in Jan '15 instead (Ridiciculous and lost him the PM job) Richie died in Apri'15 😞

Sir Merv has a good ring to it.

Sir Billy Birmingham as he probably did more for Australian cricket from the 80s - 00s than any player.

If NZ had received or shared the 2019 CWC Williamson might have been offered one (although if he gets 10K runs/40 test 100s along with the 2021 WTC, he might be offered it). Richie the GOAT McCaw was offered a knighthood but turned it down.

Maharajkumar of Vizianagram or "Vizzy". Awarded for cricket administration and politics, rather than playing achievements. But still the only one to be knighted while still an active Test cricketer - before his last Test.
The only in the subcontinent? Because Hadlee was knighted before the 1990 tour of England.

Marcus Harris should be knighted. His services to English cricket in the 2021 ashes will never be forgotten by the "Australia hasn't won an ashes in England since 2001" fans.

He became Sir Richard just before the second Test at Lord's when his knighthood was announced. Official investiture was in October after his last Test.

But yes his name should be added to Vizzy's.
