Winning after a follow on has happened like 3-4 times in history - Botham’s 149* was a crazy knock as well

Eh It's one particular metric for rating an innings. Just like how laxmans innings wins out on how dire the situation was.
To be frank I think the Aussies underestimated him because the situation looked hopeless. Not to take away from the brilliance of how Laxman played. But with Lara it seemed the Aussies were really putting the kitchen sink in to get him out, especially McGrath.

They must have stopped underestimating him sometime over the course of those two days tbf.

VVS Laxman’s 167 at Sydney is the best test innings I have seen in a losing cause and he had Oh My God such elegant strokes on that day

Most box office knock I've seen.
Yeah, 67 all out first inning, game looked lost after Root's wicket, Sixes just over the boundary, that LBW, Lyon fumbling the Ashes with the easy run out, the air punch and crowd roar perfectly coinciding, it's so perfect you can't even stage it.

A filled-out stadium adds so much to how you recall an innings. I'm not the biggest fan of Perera's innings though it's obviously a monumental achievement. But imagine that going down in front of a crowd as big and hyped as the others.

Whatever it takes!!!

Yeah I definitely feel sometimes I overrate that innings maybe coz of the atmosphere I watched it at. At the British Airways Lounge at the Heathrow with drunk screaming fans... I took my seat just as Buttler and Stokes got together and (with the flight delays) didn't have to budge till the presentations were done.
