Yeah I definitely feel sometimes I overrate that innings maybe coz of the atmosphere I watched it at. At the British Airways Lounge at the Heathrow with drunk screaming fans... I took my seat just as Buttler and Stokes got together and (with the flight delays) didn't have to budge till the presentations were done.
I was at home readying myself to go on a rant online about the patheticness of English Cricket that day and Stokes played the knock and it was probably the most fun I had watching sports with family in more than a decade, just an absolute nail-biting thriller from ball one, 2019 Ashes was one of the great ones.

VVS Laxman’s 167 at Sydney is the best test innings I have seen in a losing cause and he had Oh My God such elegant strokes on that day
Clarke 151 Capetown 2011 imo. In terms of one player seemingly playing on a completely different pitch to everyone else, it has no equal. No hackish slogging too, just relentless, perfect stroke play on a very difficult pitch.

Opening, dukes, literally the GOAT pace attack, only two other Batsmen made more than 6 runs and nobody crossed 27. Wonderful inning.
Definitely a top 5 innings of all time.

Interestingly in the same test Viv scored a breezy 73 showing again he can master blast in any conditions.

Yes, this was a beautiful innings, remember watching it live on TV. Possibly gets overlooked because of what happened over the next two innings and then the bland outcome with SA cruising through the chase.

KP was a player of great innings. The 3 in 2012 were all incredible but I think my favourite of his was the 142 at edgbaston in 2006 on a slow pitch with peak Murali twirling away taking 6fer and then ten in the match. No other English player passed thirty or scored faster than an sr of 52 but KP went at nearly a run a ball and was reverse sweeping Murali for 6.

The oldest record in test cricket - Charles Bannerman

Very close to the oldest, but not quite.

James Southerton was 49 years old when he took to the field in the first test before any runs were scored. He remains the oldest player to debut in a test match. Only 3 players post WWII have debuted after the age of 40. Two of these occasions occurred in the 50’s and one occurred in South Africa’s return to test cricket.

A great detailed analysis on Bannerman’s innings can be found here

The Stokes innings was awesome for me because of the two gears, the bloackathon followed by the frenetic six hitting. It all happened so fast.
