Where to now for Pakistani cricket?

I think that everyone currently playing international cricket will have retired before there's another Test match in Pakistan.

I think it is at least equally as likely that Pakistan will now play neutral tests in England as the UAE. In England the only thing you'd have to sort out would be the TV rights issue, as attendance wouldn't be a problem at all, in fact they'd draw bigger crowds to tests in England than than they have in Pakistan for years.
What are the hours of play like for people in Pakistan watching cricket in England like? Pretty good, I'm guessing.

11AM-6PM BST is 3PM-10PM Pakistani time. So basically the same as watching cricket in West Indies is in Britain.

Either way, I presume there'd be many complications involved with playing Pakistan "home" games in the UK, all of which might just be sort-out-able in these extreme circumstances but I'd not be taking anything for granted.

Certainly the UAE doesn't sound great currently.

Pakistan is GMT+5 and during the summer the UK is an hour forward the difference would be 4 hours. From a Pakistan perspective, play would start at 3pm and close at 10pm or so. Not bad if you are trying to get viewing figures I would guess.

I think the wheels are already in motion: Cricket: Australia officials confirm they are in discussions to play their Test series against Pakistan in England in 2010 | Sport | guardian.co.uk

Do it like they did Back in the Day in Dhaka?

We don't get to see that many Great Test Matches ...

But I think the Hostilities that still resonate between Bangladeshis and Pakistanis will make this a No-Go

Especially if they play in Leeds...

Yeah it would be late in the 2006 summer, Panesar bowled that Jaffer to Younis Khan and Saj bowled pretty well.

And more significantly than getting 4-22 (2 of which were tailenders I might add), he was barracked by Pakistan fans (many of whom might well have been Brits) for playing for England instead of Pakistan.

Yeah I was sitting in the stand that it was alleged to have happened and I can say that it was massively overblown. A few drunk idiots in the crowd started shouting at him, which was quickly drowned out by pretty much everyone else cheering him.

It's awful this has happened. As much as I love the sport, a game of cricket isn't worth one human life.

The cricketing fraternity is a small one and I don't think we can afford to let one of our number stumble and fall. "Home" tests in England, with its ready made expat and first generation Pakistani communities, or elsewhere seems the obvious compromise.

There's no guarantee at all that any of the other cricket nations can neccessarily help Pakistan now. It requires both the help of other cricket nations and action from those heading the country - whether that be the current heads or any other regime down the line.

If either of those are not present within the space of a generation, however, cricket in Pakistan may wither. That's the stark truth. Of course, it's also possible that it may not.

Yet much as "home" Tests elsewhere (with the UK being one possibility) are something that'd be better than not, the amount the help may well be miniscule.

So where to now for the Champions Trophy? Are they gonna move it to another country or skip straight to 2010?

Luckily the upcoming Australia Pakistan series is not going to be in Pakistan.

So if Pakistan were to play their "home" Test series for example against South Africa or the West Indies, an English umpire would be allowed to stand since it isn't technically an England home Test, but a Pakistani home "Test"?

Of course. There's hardly anything foggy in that matter. It wouldn't be a "home" test anyway, it's considered a neutral venue.

I hope they just skip it. Do we really need a Champions Trophy at all? Greedy turds.

Nice avatar, BTW.
