Hope he can sort out of batting issues.....well for the last year or so its been ok..but we haven't faced a top bowling side yet...

yeah.....hopefully he can get the fielding issues sorted out and get some consistency from the pace department and increasing the solidity of the batting. In short everything :p

Watmore is going to sign a two year contract with the PCB. All the details have been sorted out and both parties have made a verbal agreement.

Great News.

This is really bad decision. Never rated Whatmore too highly.

And most Pakistani former players would not agree to be batting coach under Whatmore.

But specialist coaches in all 3 deparments is a very good idea. Just need to get the right people.

It certainly is a risk considering that MHK is going pretty well with the team and letting Misbah do the job himself.
If Whatmore comes, there will be problems for Misbah as he wont be able to go his way, there will be problems for seniors who will not be able to cope with his disciplined attitude. + Politics will start again.

Remember that Lawson was given preference over Whatmore in 2007 when senior players rejected Whatmore for his notorious behavior i.e no compromise on discipline.
Also that Whatmore has asked for all authorities including selecting the squad which means 'parchis' will have to go.

current senior players (Younis, Ajma,Gul) have much better attitude then 2007 senior plaayers (Shoaib, Malik, Mo Yo, razzzaq) so don't see that as an issue. On the other hand Misbah is not that sort of guy who will create issues with the coaches. Personally i feel Mohsin is getting undeserved credit for the teams performance its Waqar ad Msbah who did the hard work and its still very much Misbah's team rather then Mohsin.

Whatmore played a key role during the early stages of Murali, Vass and Jayasuriya's career he was also the one who turned De Silva career around. The man has decent pedigree.

Not sure what to make of this. He did a great job for Sri Lanka but that was sometime back. I'm not really convinced by the rest of the stuff he's done since then, but what do I know. Pakistan isn't the easiest side to coach either and a lot will depend on whether Pakistan can maintain their amazing form which will help him settle easier I reckon. Also would probably depend on the political aspect of the job which is a very real scenario for most sub continent sides these days.

why do you think Whamore is not a great idea?
what has he achieved really since the 96 World Cup? which was 15 years ago.

Also he was more interested in the Indian job back in 2007 after Woolmer's death..now that India never gave him a job..he wants Pakistan's job.

TBH, that is only as much of an endorsement of Whatmore as a success as Pakistan losing one key match there is an indictment of Woolmer as a failure. Can't make out much from a single failure or success.

nah they were horrible when he took over and he turned them semi competitive since they have oscillated between horrible and being semi competitive. TBF Coaching BD should not be used as a yard stick to measure a cricket coach credentials. I would like to know how he has done in his county stints some Lancashire blokes rate him quite highly i think they did couple of OD doubles under him.
