No, it is an over in which the bowler doesn't concede any runs. If there is a wide or no ball it isn't a maiden. If there is a bye or leg bye it still can be.A maiden isn't a runless over. It's an over where no runs are scored off the bat.
That wasn’t the case when the term was coined. Even as recently as Bob Willis’s day No Balls and Wides didn’t count against the bowlers figures. No, it is an over in which the bowler doesn't concede any runs. I don't know when it was changed but I'm pretty sure that wasn't the case when I started watching regularly in the early to mid 90s.That wasn’t the case when the term was coined. Even as recently as Bob Willis’s day No Balls and Wides didn’t count against the bowlers figures.
I specified “Bob Willis’s day”, when it definitely was the case. He retired mid 80’s.I don't know when it was changed but I'm pretty sure that wasn't the case when I started watching regularly in the early to mid 90s.
That's interesting. Some of those West Indian bowling averages would be quite a lot worse then as they bowled HEAPS of no balls. That wasn’t the case when the term was coined. Even as recently as Bob Willis’s day No Balls and Wides didn’t count against the bowlers figures.
True. I'm sure a number of players bowled more wides/no balls than they took wickets. That's interesting. Some of those West Indian bowling averages would be quite a lot worse then as they bowled HEAPS of no balls.
Wait for real? That wasn’t the case when the term was coined. Even as recently as Bob Willis’s day No Balls and Wides didn’t count against the bowlers figures.
Calculate the batting vs bowling average difference for the era. You will get a sudden rise in the difference when the change took place and then gradual normalisation.Just more evidence that Anderson is goat.
Rather interesting, actually. I never knew this. It would be an interesting excercise to adjust averages to account for this. Could it equate to more than a run per wicket?
Not on average, but it does for some individual bowlers.Just more evidence that Anderson is goat.

This thread appeared half an hour before the football kicked off. I just assumed he was drunk.really vibing that as head honcho of CricketWeeb sledger wanted to make a thread with maiden in the title itbt
Yeah and to be fair, he has a decent point IMO. But we gotta avoid calling maiden triumphs and maiden victories and all other sorts of maiden things...This thread appeared half an hour before the football kicked off. I just assumed he was drunk.
Yeah fair enough. You're probably right tbh, I'm just being a knob.
Yeah it does but I am still right hereI think this probably applies here too
