*Unofficial* New Zealand Black Caps Thread

Details below of the Black Caps white ball tour of India ahead of the T20 World Cup. It's a dagger through the heart of (another) NZ home summer.

Perhaps slightly disingenuous for fans to start complaining about the lack of home tests this summer once the schedule was announced, when we have known about this situation for months. There was an article out many moons ago about how the Windies tour was supposed to be only 2 tests and NZC managed to get another 1 added....so the situation could have been even worse. Invariably we will see packed grounds for almost all matches again this summer, barring the usual empty seats at the cavernous Eden Park. Unhappy purists should perhaps focus on the bumper programme of tests that the BC's will undertake in 2026.

Anyone know if Sears will be fit for Zimbabwe in July, and opinions if NZ will blood some youngsters or stick with the tried and tested,
Well Sears played cc for Yorkshire and is now doing T20s in the US. Not sure how many quicks we'd take especially if the pitches are a bit slow.
Henry and O'Rourke - YES.
Others - ??? Sears, Smith just took a 6-fer in county, Jamieson (injury risk or does he need a chance to bowl decent spells), Duffy, and even perhaps Foulkes as bolter

Youngsters - I'd expect Rhys Mariu (opener, 23) and Mitch Hay (keeper, 24) to make their test debuts.

'at a time when test cricket appears as strong as it has been in recent memory, New Zealand’s dearth of fixtures is not unique. South Africa – who just defeated Australia to claim the third iteration of the World Test Championship – don’t play a home test match until October 2026.'

Whether Mariu gets a debut I think will largely depend on whether or not Conway decides to put his hand up to tour Zim. If he does I think Mariu will be left out.

Not sure about Hay either. Yeah, with a new coach Blundell's place will be less secure. Having said that he had (statistically speaking at least) a good series v England, so wouldn't be shocked to see him being given a bit more rope.

Do we really learn or gain anything from Latham/Conway scoring runs against Zimbabwe? If they play it should be a test each with Mariu at the other end playing both games. Same with Blundell but I'd just play Mitch Hay in both games personally. Blundell's averaged like 20 in the last 2 years.

I can't believe I ate the whole thing
Sodhi over Ashok is sad. Not sure what to make of Conway's dropping, but it opening a place for BJ Jacobs is definitely a good thing in my book.
Poor T20I form, turned down a central contract, is 33, his overall format form has been up and down...not a mystery for mine.

No Ashok is gutting though. I mean Milne was explained as a replacement for Sears but tbf I think we should've taken Ashok instead as well as Sodhi (who tends to turn up at random times, like a T20 WC).

Absolutely agree about T20Is, but do still very much enjoy the Super Smash. I'd be very happy for Sky to take the T20Is if the Super Smash remains on TVNZ.
Yeah domestic T20s are fine. They have a place.

Which they of course schedule in the middle of our home summer just like the Champions Trophy. We are getting ****ed over.

Also, why is there a T20 World Cup every 2 years?
Because this is our world now. Administrators: what makes the most money right now, no other factors considered...T20Is. Sweet, let's do that. And do lots of it
