Top 50 Greatest test batters

With Indian cricket never really claiming him, English writers began to treat Ranji as a relic from a bygone imperial age that was no longer relevant, and more or less ignored him. Left without a champion, he has become seriously underrated as a cricketer.
We can’t claim him because he never played for us.

England probably never saw him as his own.

You do know Sachin played at home in India his entre career. At no point was it pace friendly. But somehow the 2000's still took it a step further as it helped no one.

So yes, Sachin also very much had pancake wickets at home.
I'm not arguing a comparison. You just asked a Sobers record weakness.

Sachni's record was just as good outside India as it was in India, unlike Sobers

Oh Yeah, this is not true, if you give Gary Sobers his 1970 world XI tour of England and 1971 world XI tour of Australia (where he made that 254), then Sobers' away average is 53, Sachin is 54 with Bangladesh afaik, so not a huge difference in away numbers.
That is somewhat fair I guess. Would still prioritize his actual team numbers tho.

On the home records of Tendulkar and Sobers, Tendulkar had balanced wickets at home for the 1990s, they were sometimes spicy when strong teams toured but flat when weaker teams toured (second string England, Sri Lanka). After the 1990s, in the 2000s, they were honestly kind of similar to what Sobers played on. Here is Fred Trueman talking about Sobers's home wickets.

But Gary also does average 66-67 at home to Tendulkar's 52, so I think personally their home record is reflective of their wickets and I do think Sobers was the better home cricketers, Sachin's 90s wickets were balanced but it's not like they were minefields like South Africa or England of modern times or 1950s or so forth.

also, another passage from Trueman.

Also, are we ready to boost Andy Roberts and Lance Gibbs for carving out great careers with these as wickets? for the first halve of Andy's career atleast. Sobers too, should get a bowling boost considering I think his home record with the bat is widely lowered because of the wickets.

16.Grace
17.Barrington
18.Headley
19.Ponting

Hammond & Barrington are the only players I would say are definitely better than him. Rest are debatable.
How the **** is Joe Root in the top 15 test batsmen of all time? Come on, ffs. List is invalid on that basis alone.

I like the position of Ponting and Gavaskar (though both more extreme than what I will do). I don't like those of Weekes and Walcott and Trumper and Ranji and Pollock and am genuinely mad that Compton and Nourse are no where to be seen. And I am quite flabbergasted by the ranking of Grace..... 16th?? Seriously??? Like that just looks wrong. All in all not the worst list I have seen, but it definitely has something everyone of us will like, and something everyone all of us will hate the guts of.
Mate Grace at 16 makes a ton more sense than Joe ****ing Root at 14. An abomination.
