Top 50 Greatest test batters

Yeah thinking about it, this list has a lot of "**** Burgey' elements to it, Root is above Chappell, Ponting, Border and Waugh.

Nowhere near the top 50. Maybe - and only just maybe - in the top 100. Being the best player in an otherwise bog ordinary side does not an all timer make you. You need a far better resume than he has ffs. This is diabolical.
Breathe in, slowly, and out, in and out, slowly

Root ahead of someone like Aravinda Da Silva is borderline stupid, let alone George Headley.
wait a minute, is performance against great bowling really the angle you want to take when discussing George Headley?

Every time Joe Root walks out to bat against Australia my eyes immediately look to see who's next in, because I know he won't be there very long. I wish he could occupy every spot in England's top six against our blokes.

FMD, top 15 players of all time? Embarrassing.

And a racist **** to boot. Still has questions to answer ffs.

I'm not discussing George Headley, I'm discussing Joe "Mediocrity is my Middle Name" Root. FMD I've seen 15 blokes in the past 30 years alone I'd put ahead of him, and half of them I don't rate that highly.

@Burgey going away from Root for a moment, what is your genuine opinion on Alastair Cook and Shiveraine Chanderpaul over Steve Waugh?

Off the top of my head and in no particular order, here's 17 blokes I've seen since 1995 who are objectively better players than Joe Root, and anyone who says otherwise has been lobotomized:

Tendullkar
Lara
S Smith
Ponting
Dravid
Laxman
Sehwag
Hayden
Williamson
Sangakkara
G Smith
Pietersen
Da Silva
Y Khan
De Villiers
Flower
Chanderpaul

Both Waugh and Cook should be in my list tbh.

I think Chanderpaul is closer to Waugh than Cook. Waugh gets marked down for batting five and six, but people forget how many times he dug Aus out of the **** in the 90s agaisnt some seriously good bowling. Cook I think was very good overall, better than Root imo.

Bro mentioned 43 average Aravinda De Silva but no Jack Kallis oml
Kallis doesn't come to mind immediately when I think of batsmen, because I'd rather walk from here to Perth to watch Da Silva play one pull shot than stroll down my back yard to my unimpeded view of the harbour bridge to watch Kallis bat for a day at Birchgrove Oval.

In the last 3 decades only Sachin, Smith & Lara are clearly better than Root. Everyone else is debatable.

True, but whatever gets the job done is whats valuable at the end of the day.
