Top 10 Fielders in the World

Crazy Sam

International 12th Man
so who do you guys reckon are the best 10 fielders in the world.

I haven't seen some of the sides play for a while but I'd certainly have Symonds, Ponting, Lee, Clarke as my top four....mind you Lee doesn't exactly play many internationals lately.

From India you could include Kaif. Awesome fielder...followed by Yuvraj

Collingwood would get a look in too for his fielding. Maybe Solanki too? Chandana is quite good as well.

No doubt in my mind that Symonds is the best fielder in the world, head and shoulders above the rest. He does spectacular things almost every time I see him play. Lee is very energetic and athletic, but doesn't catch as well as Ponting or Symonds. Clarke seems pretty good from what I've seen of him, but I wouldn't rate him as highly as Symonds or Ponting.

From other countries, Chopra is often overlooked as a fielder, but he was simply brilliant against Australia recently. The best close catcher off spin bowling in the world, hands down.

Ricardo Powell and Dwayne Smith are practically specialist fielders in the Windies side. Lara is a superb catcher - the Flintoff catch in the ICC final was as good as I've ever seen.

I don't think there are any better "slippers" than Dravid at the moment, but for all-round fielding ability I'd go for Collingwood, Ponting and Yuvraj, in no particular order. Hayden is perhaps under-rated, though he seems less impressive at slip than he was in the gully.

was it bravo or sammy who executed that awesome run-out from the deep in the champions trophy? that was the best piece of fielding i've seen in a long time.

sad that we don't get to see ponting in the ring much anymore, and throwing down stumps with ridiculous regularity.

clarke is a good fielder without being one of the best in the world - his rating in my eyes drops due to his fumbles in the slips

Bravo. Looks an excellent outfielder.

inzamam must be one of the best fielders at point ever followed by ian blackwell who is one of the fastest most efficient fielders i have ever seen and his off spin is second only to michael atherton

Currently can only think of 6... (in no particular order)

Kaif
Collingwood
Dwayne Smith
Ponting
Gibbs
Afridi
Chandana

Honorable mention to Solanki, Bravo and Lara.

Can't comment on New Zealand or Zimbabwe, as I've not seen them much lately and when I have, no one's stood out.

Best fielding side: Kenya undoubtedly.

Collingwood took over the mantle when rhodes retired, simple as that.
Dwayne Smith is as good as Collingwood in the field. There's just the small matter of teams preferring to pick batsmen for their batting rather than their fielding. :p Collingwood wins because he's actually done something other than field for England.

That said, Smith is a very handy ODI bowler. He should work on that aspect of his game, seeing as he's intent on squandering his glorious batting talent.

International Coach
Ponting,Kaif,Gibbs,Dravid(slip),Collingwood,Powell,Younis khan,warne(slip),Dilshan
and
Tendulkar - i dont remeber seeing him drop many catches and for some one who have played so many games he fields a lot in the boundry and have a good throwing arm.

I only picked him because he was the best fielder, it's got nothing to do with his batting!! You being west indian should agree with me after that catch he took off gayle in the 5th ODI earlier this year!

Shame that Trevor Penney hasn't got a look in here.. On his day he was Jonty-esque.. And even quicker between the wickets..
Stewart Carlisle was outstanding in the field as well

2nd-best catch I've ever seen was taken by Stuart Vance... McKenzie in his debut ODI - Kingsmead. Dono if anyone else saw that...
Some who are about as good as each other (about): Symonds, Dwayne Smith, Collingwood, Gibbs, Yuvraj, Sangakkara (when he doesn't take the gloves).
Best hands: Lara, Dravid, Fleming, Warne, Jayawardene, Flintoff (nowadays)
Best arms: Flintoff, Streak, Oram
