Agent TBY

International Captain
So in the 65,000-odd selections between my previous pick and these two, everyone I was looking to draft in the next few rounds is gone, and I'm gonna have to reshuffle the deck quite a bit.

Fun times.

Odd Jobs XI

3. Clem Hill
4. KS Duleepsinhji
5. Clyde Walcott (+)
6. Aubrey Faulkner
7. Warwick Armstrong
8. Maurice Tate

11. Neil Adcock

The Battlers Prince

International Vice-Captain
That's such a strong batting lineup...honestly you've got Armstrong at 7 FFS

How many people are changing batting orders to suit ODI as opposed to where people bat in FC or tests?

Agent TBY

International Captain
I definitely am. The idea with Walcott/Faulkner/Armstrong is to have a floating, flexible 5-7 like Dhoni/Yuvraj/Raina in India's WC-winning side.

In an ideal world, my order would've looked something like

Hill
Merchant
Hazare
Leyland
Walcott
Faulkner
Armstrong

I was really hoping Leyland at least would slip through unnoticed because everything, and I don't mean this as an insult to either of these men, points to his being Michael Bevan before Michael Bevan was Micheal Bevan—prolific southpaw who had issues against the short ball but had the skillset to work the ball with ease during the middle overs of a one-day game. Absolutely gutted I didn't get him.

Duleepsinhji

There are enough solid openers still left for me to be patient one round longer.

Duleep only played 12 tests, but scored 5 tons in that time span. His test average of 58(higher than Sobers) and test strikerate of 51(also higher than Sobers) is enough for him to slot into my middle order

Tallon can throw his wicket away at the top of the order potentially for a quickfire 30 and let McCabe come in ASAP

The great NZ lefthander Bert Sutcliffe for me thanks to open with Sid Barnes, nice left-right combo.

Can't believe Sutcliffe is still available tbh. History buffs, check his glorious drive straight down the ground at 2:16 of this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ci6mayT7dU0

Love that Colin Milburn is available. Brilliant, entertaining, attacking batsman who's career was tragically cut short. Would've been great fun to watch in ODI cricket, imo.

Against the formidable West Indies side, he hit 94 in England's second innings at Old Trafford in the First Test, and with a memorable 126 not out at Lord's he saved the game by his brilliant attacking strokes
Spectators who saw it have not forgotten his hundred in only 77 minutes at Adelaide and at Brisbane he played the most extraordinary innings seen there in Shield matches. On the first day he made 243, and before he was out in the first over after tea, having scored 181 between lunch and tea, he had hit four sixes and 38 fours
Only drawback is he was terrible in the field. No issues though. It's hardly difficult to hide someone on the field. Will bump Trumper down to number 3

So deep has Edward Paynter’s name been etched in the history of the sport due to his courage in the Bodyline series and his extraordinary career numbers that the fact that he was a gifted stroke-player is usually forgotten. Relying mostly on back-foot strokes, he could hook and pull ferociously, and his experience of playing at Old Trafford meant that he could handle swing as well.

Paynter was also a gifted player of spin; unlike most others he was never reluctant to play his strokes and to step out of the crease and even swept the ball mercilessly, which was one of the most important reasons of his success against the likes of Bill O’Reilly. Few batsmen of the era were as attractive as Paynter in full flow. He loved to clear cricket grounds.

Eric Midwinter wrote of him: “A ferocious driver, a batsman who hooked seemingly with both feet off the ground or swept so fiercely that his pad knee-roll always looked tarnished, and one who indulged in what he [Paynter] termed ‘me fancy cuts’, he was highly regarded with affection as well as esteem.”

The main aspect of Paynter was, however, his numbers. With a 20-Test cut-off, Paynter ranks fifth in the history of Test cricket in terms of highest batting averages......

Paynter was also an exceptional fielder: his swiftness and anticipation at cover were well-known, and he was one of the best outfielders of his era: he was one of the safest of catchers and his throw was fast, hard, and almost always accurate.
