That's not even close to true. Even if you go on end-of-career averages, Sobers only averaged 4 more per wicket than Botham.SA said:If Imran & Botham aren't close to Sobers as a bastmen but is Sobers close to anyone of them as a bowler. If Sobers is one of the greatest batsmen ever then Imran would also make top 10 bowlers of alltime.Sobers may've been twice the batsman Imran & Botham were, but Botham was 8 times & Imran was 10 times the bowler Gary Sobers was.Everyone has his own opinion & IMO,Imran & Botham were better allrounders than Gary Sobers.
That explanation doesn't make him a better bowler & it'll always remain a fact that he was a very ordinary bowler overall.BTW,if he wasn't a good spinner then who asked him to bowl those long spells of spin bowling?FaaipDeOiad said:That's not even close to true. Anyway, Sobers wasn't a poor bowler by any means, he was merely a good one rather than a great one. To view his impact with the ball properly, you should take note of how many wickets he took. He might not have had the greatest average, but that is mostly due to the fact that he wasn't a particularly great spin bowler (long spells of spin bowling inflated his average in the long run), but he was still one of the most prolific wicket takers in the world in his time. He's the only all-rounder ever who can legitimately claim to be, at times, both the best batsman and the best bowler in his team. And even when he was playing with the likes of Hall and Gibbs who were superior bowlers, he wasn't far off being the best in his side, and still matched them in turns of wicket taking.
And of course, he was close to the second best batsman in history, and one of the best slippers as well. A fair bit ahead of the likes of Imran, Miller and Botham.
Sobers bowling had to be better than just ordinary overall..SA said:That explanation doesn't make him a better bowler & it'll always remain a fact that he was a very ordinary bowler overall.BTW,if he wasn't a good spinner then who asked him to bowl those long spells of spin bowling?
Usually he bowled them himself, as he was captain a lot of the time.SA said:That explanation doesn't make him a better bowler & it'll always remain a fact that he was a very ordinary bowler overall.BTW,if he wasn't a good spinner then who asked him to bowl those long spells of spin bowling?
Thank you for getting the thread back on track. And I say it'll be 5, or maybe 4 wickets to Australia, they'll have a little scare right at the end.Blaze said:ffs this thread is for predictions.
I predict Aus will beat Bangladesh in the current Test by 7 wickets.
Go son go! Just needs to stay fit really, because an average under 20 is a great start after only 5 1/2 tests.Jono said:Mohammad Asif to be one of the 3 best fast bowlers in the world by the end of 2007.
Let's have a look at Nostrabrumbus's predictions then:BoyBrumby said:I'm usually utterly merde at predictions, but I'll have a go anyway:
Ed Joyce to debut for England in an ODI this summer.
England to whitewash Sri Lanka in the test series.
Pakistan to take a test off England but to still lose series.
Australia to win World Cup (wow, brave call... ).
England to retain Ashes by drawing down under.
Increasingly Unlikely , but not impossible . In my personal opinion still a very strong possibility of coming right .BoyBrumby said:-Increasingly unlikely
crowd of around 15,000 spectators were left confused by the drama, as last night the Dubai-based International Cricket Council said no statement would be made. But cricket experts said the row threatened a deep and lasting split in world cricket. The Pakistan team had complained previously about what it alleged was biased umpiring by Hair, a member of cricket’s elite umpiring panel, which is sponsored by Emirates Airlines. He denies any bias.BoyBrumby said:
That's a rumour I hadn't heard!

- A total split in world cricket.. A seperate asian entity to break away from the ICC (Personally I couldn't care less if they did, providing Aus/Eng/SA/WI can survive financially)

Let's hope that never happens. But if it does, it won't be just an "Asian" entity. I have a strong feeling that most of the world except Eng/Aus/NZ would join the breakway faction led by the Asian contingent (including WI and SA). It's all a matter of money. And the money is generated in Asia.
