Well there you go, not to many genuine ARs on that list, I would think only the first three would be picked for their batting or bowling alone. Even then I would think only No.2 would be a %100 starter for bothsilentstriker said:They do have one:
Career Best
1 J. Kallis SA 485
2 A. Flintoff ENG 453
3 S. Pollock SA 301
4 D. Vettori NZ 290
5 C. Vaas SL 270
5 I. Pathan IND 270
7 S. Jayasuriya SL 233
8 S. Warne AUS 231
9 C. Gayle WI 217
10 A. Kumble IND 215
The claim that Flintoff would make a team based on his batting isn't very true IMO, he isn't really a top 6 batsmen. His bowling would make a team, but his batting wouldn't, not that it isn't useful.archie mac said:Well there you go, not to many genuine ARs on that list, I would think only the first three would be picked for their batting or bowling alone. I wonder where Blee and Dizzy would rank?
Im inclined to agree with you. It would be very interesting to see what would happen if Flintoff was ever to be in an Oram-type situation in the future.andyc said:The claim that Flintoff would make a team based on his batting isn't very true IMO, he isn't really a top 6 batsmen. Freddie has the talent to average 40+ if he concentrates more on his batting while on the other hand Kallis would never be able to average under 25 even if he concentrates more on his bowling.Goughy said:Im inclined to agree with you. Im sure he would still be picked as a batter but Im not sure it would be the best for the team.
In Kallis' prime, i disagree.Xuhaib said:Freddie has the talent to average 40+ if he concentrates more on his batting while on the other hand Kallis would never be able to average under 25 even if he concentrates more on his bowling.
Well firstly I did not suggest that Kallis should be a current selection as a specialist bowler. I was saying its unlikely that Flintoff should be selected as a specialist batsman.Xuhaib said:Freddie has the talent to average 40+ if he concentrates more on his batting while on the other hand Kallis would never be able to average under 25 even if he concentrates more on his bowling.

Also it is debatable whether Flintoff can ever get his bowling average down below 25 before he retires and one thing Im sure of he will not retire with a batting average over 40 AND a bowling average under 25.
He's managed to average over 40 whilst his bowling has been improving (the last 2 or 3 years)Xuhaib said:Freddie has the talent to average 40+ if he concentrates more on his batting while on the other hand Kallis would never be able to average under 25 even if he concentrates more on his bowling.
Why 25?silentstriker said:Yes, even in his last 25 matches (where you started to consider him the world's best bar none), he averages 37 with the bat and 26 with the ball. And thats his prime. So no chance of retiring with over 40 and under 25. I mean, he is almost 29 already, so its not like he has another decade.

Why not the last 35?
(2060 @ 39.61 and 139 @ 25.93) - pretty close.
The reason he'd never reach career figures is his first 20odd games were nowhere near an acceptable level.
Behind Keith Miller?silentstriker said:Thats fine...I didn't realize they were better over 35 games than 25 games. But even then, he doesn't have >25 and 40+ average (its close), and to get his career figures there...he'd have to average less than 20 with the ball, and 50+ with the bat over like a 30 game period.
That's not happening. If it does...then he easily becomes the 2nd best all rounder of all time.
Well why not? As long as Freddie gets out in a Test match so he can make a bet on the horses or to watch the races, then he has Miller covered (Miller was famous for getting out in a Tour match in England just to see if the horse he had a punt on would win, or if he was bowling he would get the 12th man go and make the bet or find out the result).archie mac said:Behind Keith Miller?
