I didn’t hate Wood being brought in but I thought the expectation that he would make a big impact on the attack was kinda loopy. I love express pace as much as everyone else does but he’s had this kind of hype every summer for years and been a massive letdown every single time.

The pitch was very atypical for England and for once he was actually used in short spells. I still think at some point he’ll go for runs, especially if we get the usual Oval pitch and he plays there. But I’m just making excuses now. He already completely proved me wrong.

Hopefully they discover the internet there soon.
It's one thing spending your holiday checking to see who the latest lucky recipient of a Bairstow drop is, it's another thing to discuss it with the likes of you! 😉

I can assure you all, as I sit waiting to board my flight, that you will have no escape from me. You mean even get more of me than usual!

Surprised that Brooks made some runs (despite having 5 or 6 close calls)

Not eating any humble pies though still think he is an overrated hack

I think Head has positively surprised me at this level. Didn't actually take him seriously as a batsman but he's done the business in every game so far. Still have the feeling that he can be dismissed early on and will be interesting if England keep trying to bounce him out in Manchester

Head we have bowled pathetically at, just bowled medium pace short stuff. Don't care how much of an issue he potentially has with short ball, just bowl top of off early against virtually every single bat in cricket history ffs.

I am sticking to Mitch Marsh being shite in England though, dropped first dig and looked better 2nd in best conditions of the match. Any movement at all and he will be done in short order for rest of series.

Whatever it takes!!!
Unsure if Australia should drop Warner. I posted somewhere else that dropping a specialist may not be such a great idea given how the rest of their team is. If its gonna be a green top, they might as well drop Murphy and Boland and play Green and Hazlewood instead.

Check out the ‘wickets taken in away Ashes wins since 2001’ column and come back to me when you find someone better
The word "series" isn't your post, so I just checked in statsguru and got:

Warne 36
McGrath 33
Lyon 27
Cummins 22
Hazlewood 19
JA 18

The Ashes is the name of the series, it would be superfluous
I meant you you wrote in "away Ashes wins" (i.e. Ashes TEST MATCH wins), not "away Ashes SERIES wins" so those 5 Aussies have all taken more wickets in tests Australia have won in England and Wales than Anderson has in tests the Poms have won in Australia.
