Noble One

International Vice-Captain
Nathan Lyon overlooked in the poll. Average, strike rate and WPM ratio place him in elite company.

Cannot split the real bowlers. Impossible to compare Muralitharan and Warne to the greats of the past.

Valentine, Rhammadin, Gibbs, Illingworth, Titmus,Laker, Verity,Benaud..... these are a few names missing from your list. Lance Gibbs held the world record for most number of test dismissals for quite some time before he was surpassed by Richie Benaud. These are 2 notable NON- inclusions
I think Lillee took Gibbs world record and Benaud's Aussie record not that I am being picky:p

Tiger's record in the SS is just amazing when you consider the flat pitches and the huge scores. He was another who lost years to the war. Warne's poor record in the SS always worries me although he did not really play enough to give a decent opinion.

Laker was a great bowler although he was smashed by Bradman, Miller and Harvey in 1948 and was cut down to size in OZ in 58-59.

Murali's poor record in SA and Aust is a concern so I marked him down as well:(

I have cast my vote, but this thread screams out for Subash Gupte.

Sticklers for stats can make of it what they will, but I'm sure there'd be people who rate the leggie very highly.

In an ideal world, I'd have picked Murali, O'Reilly and Gupte. However, the third name isn't listed as one of the options in this poll so I went for the greatest off-spinner produced south of the equator, Hugh Tayfield.

i would gladly pick oreilly, warne and muralii if multiple choices are allowed. will wait for the threat starter to confirm, though
I picked those three and Laker, who I believe is often unjustly left out of the argument.

I always pick Warne in my AWTXI, but I use the cop-argument of his slips catching, occasional batting and awesome cricket brain to split the difference. I find it hard to do so otherwise - I'd probably go for Murali if pushed to pick one on bowling alone.
