Cricket Web: All-Time Legend
When I was at school there was a scruffy bloke in his late teens with bad teeth and a body odour problem who used to hang around at the back of the CCF hut selling Woodbines at overly inflated prices to those who wanted to smoke them but who didn't have the brains to walk into the local newsagents to buy their own. His name was "Harry" Harrison - he did get caught by one of the more "aggressive" members of staff eventually and ran off bloody fast never to be seen again (though I doubt he got as far as Pakistan TBH)

Well, England may have gone backwards from where they were 4 years ago, but then so have Australia, Pakistan, New Zealand and arguably Sri Lanka. Its not because these teams haven't worked as hard, but because cricket runs in cycles, and for one team to be more successful, others have to be less so.
Exactly right.

Not necessarily. Cricket isn't a zero-sum game

But doesn't a team achieve success by beating other teams?
Yes but success can be also gained through self-improvement in cricketing ability on the behalf of one team rather than simply relying upon a decreased quality and standard of cricket in other nations. If one team improves, it doesn't necessarily translate into a loss of cricketing prowess for other nations. It just means that said nation has a higher standard of cricket, without effecting the standard of cricket in other nations.

Kabir Ali should be there ahead of bowlers like Davies and certainly Amjad Khan, in terms of quality. But, he has come out in public, on more than one occassion, moaning about not being chosen and arguing that he should be there. That comes across as arrogant and the selectors wont like being told what to do. If he feels he should be there then imagine how Owais Shah feels?
