The Battle of the Commentators

HeathDavisSpeed

Cricket Web: All-Time Legend
And so we move onto RoUnD TwO

Battle One
Kerry O'Keeffe vs Jonathan Agnew

The Form Guide: O'Keeffe had a tough first round draw against the in depth skills of Simon Hughes, the Analyst. In contrast, Agnew had an easy battle against Mark 'Tubbs' Taylor whose voice appeared to 'grate' too many voters. So, with a tough first round behind him, will those skills picked up in the tough matches give O'Keeffe the edge here?

And to the competitors:

Kerry O'Keeffe

Playing Career: 24 tests and 2 ODIs for Australia; taking a total of 55 wickets and scoring 660 runs
Commentating Pedigree: Has commentated on the ABC radio network for years, and occassionally makes an appearance on the Nine Network. He has had CDs of his commentary released.
Other: *Regular guest and commentator in the media, such as on the sports panel show “The Fat”
* Chief writer “Inside Edge” cricket magazine
* Level III cricket coach
* Elite coach for NSW Emerging Blues Squad
* Specialist spin bowling coach for AIS Cricket Academy in Adelaide

Jonathan Agnew

Playing Career: Most notably successful as a first class cricketer for Leicestershire. An out and out bowler, he played in 3 unsuccessful test matches taking 4 wickets at 93.25
Commentating Pedigree: Started commentating for BBC Leicester in the off-season whilst still playing back in 1990; he was appointed the BBC's Cricket Correspondent in 1991 and has continued to commentate for the BBC, and in particular the Test Match Special programme
Other: * Has provided commentary for cricket computer games; including International Cricket Captain and Brian Lara Crickeet
* His line "He couldn't quite get his leg over" on Ian Botham's hit wicket dismissal in an England vs West Indies test match in 1991 was voted "Best Piece of Sports Commentary of All Time" by BBC Radio 5 Live

Anyway, just give me someone who speaks good english, i dont care if theyre Australian, NZer or English, as long as they can speak in proper sentences.

I simply cannot stand all the indian/pakistani commentators who you cant understand a word of.

Michael Holding just barely passes the comprehendable test.

Mark Taylor is very insightful, he is probably the best captain in history, as is chappelli.

bill lawry is great to listen to, tony greig is ehhh. Healy, Taylor and Slater are all really good.

I like the mix up between Brad Hogg and Brad Hodge.

They look nothing alike.

In the T20 world cup when Hogg fielded the ball u could hear an off mic statement of "who is that fielder" then he comes back on and says, well fielded by brad hogg.

I'll agree that a few commentators are a little hard to understand, but most are pretty good.

As for the rest.....

There've been several guns eliminated, and there's few who've made it through there that don't deserve it. That's the nature of these beasts though, and in part what keeps them interesting.

Heath doing a top job with this FWIW.
