Ridiculous bowling options and strength for almost any track... Very good to great batsmen all around and reasonable depth in batting. Love the side. And sum of 29356 test runs :) Also excellent mix of right and left handers all through the side both in batting and bowling... Yay.

1. Bruce Mitchell
2. Glenn Turner
3. Wally Hammond (6)
4. Virat Kohli (c)
5. Clyde Walcott (w)
6. Vijay Hazare (7)
7. Aubrey Faulkner (5)
8. Ravichandran Ashwin (4)
9. Harold Larwood (2)
10. Frank Tyson (1)
11. Shoaib Akhtar (3)

Absolutely delighted with this side.

A superb batting lineup full of all-time great batsmen, including:

  • The former Test run scoring record holders for England (Hammond), South Africa (Mitchell) and India (Hazare).
  • Arguably the greatest ever opening batsman from New Zealand (Turner).
  • An incredibly talented contemporary batsman with the potential to become the greatest player of his generation (Kohli).
  • One of the most capable batsmen ever to keep wicket for for an international side (Walcott).
  • Arguably the greatest pre war spin bowling all rounder (Faulkner).
  • Very little tail with world class batting to number 7, test class batting to number 8 and capable batting to number 9.

A brutal bowling lineup with:

  • Three of the fastest bowlers ever (Tyson, Larwood, Akhtar).
  • Two world class spinners who turned the ball both ways, but with complementary specialisms (Ashwin, Faulkner).
  • A very capable medium pace backup bowler (Hammond) and another who can turn his arm over (Hazare).

Plus one of the greatest slip fielders ever (Hammond) and three others with very good catching records (Mitchell, Turner, Kohli).

Quite simply, a fabulous side.

Awesome, I get to grab the very classy Damien Martyn at 5 to round out my side....

I couldn't be happier with this side tbh.

Starting with an incredibly strong opening partnership of H Sutcliffe & NZ's greatest early doors batsman with the 2nd best average in cricket history, Stewie Dempster.

Run machine Steve Smith comes in at 3, with the star batsman in the side, the great Graeme Pollock @ 4.

The classy and solid Damien Martyn comes in at 5, followed by explosive wicket-keeper & skipper Brendon McCullum & 6 & the equally explosive Chris Cairns @ 7, followed by the great hard-hitter bowling allrounder Sir Dick Hadlee coming in at 8....

Now, to this mouth-watering bowling attack.... Hadlee & Neil Adcock to share the new ball, with Shane Bond first-change, the great Jim Laker as my spinner & Chris Cairns who makes a more than handy 4th seamer.

Note, the top 4 batsmen all average > 60 with the bat & the top 4 bowlers all < 23 with the ball.

The Festivus for the rest of us XI

1. Herbert Sutcliffe - (60.73)
2. Stewie Dempster - (65.72)

11. Bruce Reid - 93

Pretty strong lineup. Main weakness I guess is Flower keeping, but balance wise he offers so much for me.

In any case, Chappell and Flower are the main bookends in the batting, with Lawry and Kanhai being very handy up the order. Barnes and Law both unlucky to not play more. Bowling is where it's at though. Donald-Waqar-Procter is obviously immense, Reid when fit was a gun and Benaud offers a great spinning option. The fact that my better bowlers are quicks helps as it means that Flower shouldn't be tested behind the stumps all that hard.

Agreed. Quite frankly jc has the best bowling attack but IMO Zinzan s team is the best, overall thus far.

I`m actually pretty happy with that batting pretty strong and aggressive, bat down to 9. And the bowling is pretty good, maybe short of spinning options. I also like the mix of some potential great youngsters with some all time greats.

Its a bit tough to judge such teams which have exceptionally good batting but a bowling unit that qualifies just about 'OK' by draft standards.

I agree his batting is tremendous but yeah definitely looking for balance when I cast my votes

Don't know if it's been done before but might i suggest the idea for another draft. We'll call it the National Draft.

Rules:
1. No Bradman for obvious reasons
2. Each player must choose a cricketer from one of the 10 test playing nations.
3. The 11th player can be from any of the 10 nations but can only be chosen after a player from each test nation has been selected.
4. Shorter time limit; these drafts tend to drag out

Let me know your thoughts.
I had a go at one last year was quite fun. Like the idea of the 11th player being based on someone from a non test playing nation's FC ability

Not saying my bowling attack is great, but by the time my 2nd round choices came along the atg bowlers where pretty much gone. Think you underestimating how good Pollock was as a bowler. And I believe that Rabada will vie with Steyn and Donald as SA`s best ever.... but he is not there yet. But I am definitely short a 5th bowler....
