Taufel to Leave the Game?

Would be a real shame if Taufel did step down, but the amount of hours these guys work and travel can be quite tiresome.

Expect to see an expanded panel soon, with a former Test player on the international panel, despite his performances not necessarily being all that eye catching (or if they have, it's been for the wrong reasons).

Billy Bowden has umpiring down pat - make as few decisions as possible just give people not out all day cant go wrong - if you think you might give someone out refer it to the third umpire.

Give LBWs not out and you dont get bollocked. The three commentators will find a way to see it as not out. If you give a not out to a bat pad they will just say that the batsman was very lucky....

The downside occurs when they give someone out and the million replays show clearly that he wasnt........then you are in trouble.

Call someone for throwing, ball tampering.......will never get up.

Umpires should be selected from public servants who are quite comfortable making no decisions. They can work as an umpire as a side ways job placement.

Its not hard if you make no decisions.

Billy even made his own rule change....the old tailender LBW rule even went out the window and he gave some of those not out. Some guys in recent Aust India were plumb tailender LBW but he gave them not out. Glenn McGrath may have made one more 50 if he was the beneficiary of this new rule.

Clear call for more umpires, only problem is there isn't even 10 good enough umpires to make the Elite Panel.

Certainly wouldn't be the first excellent Umpire to decide the international circuit wasn't for him.

Would be a huge shame for such a good official to walk away from the biggest stage. You can't blame Taufel, anyone would get sick of spending so much time away from home, we need more umpires, simple, yet also easier said than done, as we do not want to sacrifice quality for quantity.

It's not a bad life being an umpire mind, touring the world and getting paid for it, but probably the life for a single guy or a single woman ?

You talking about Reiffel here, vic? Just curious.

Not surprised Taufel is considering leaving the game. Seriously stupid that umpires rarely get to umpire in their own country. They should be at least allowed 2 tests per year.
