Taufel to Leave the Game?

Would be a huge shame to see the game's finest umpire leave at a time where we need some solidarity in umpires more than ever. We need guys out there setting a good example showing that a very good umpire can be as effective as technology.

Takes a special type of person to be an Umpire, an even more special one that can deal with the intinery and pressures of the Elite Panel and even fewer that would be willing to see themselves thown under the bus on political whims and public pressure.

Cant imagine anyone without an exceptional or unusual personality (cue more Bowdens) wanting to do this job.

Its one to avoid

And I love how the Aussie newspaper has Taufel standing behind the arm of Murali with that look as if thats why he is leaving. 8-)

It was reported on Fox news this morning that the work load of umpires was too heavy due to the fact there was only 10. Well the solution seems obvious, employ more umpires.
With all the cricket played around the world these blokes would never be home, lighten the work load and they might hang around.

well there has to be a reason behind it.. at one point back in the years i thought bucknor was one of the best umpires we have.. and i still think he is and he has gain the respect of his fellow colleagues.. now we have guys like taufel absalutly the best and he doesn't trust icc.. u never know what icc would do that would insult him just like they did to Bucknor.. it all depends on when he is playing against india and when is going to make mistake in an india's match.. ICC is puppet of BCI as BCI is controling the world of cricket.. if it continues like this we might see Malcom Speed and indian cricket board members Umpiring in matches..as we see one by one umpires leaving the cricket..

Be a terrible shame if he did defect, but you couldn't blame him at all. More time off to be with his family for more (I'm guessing) money. There's arguably nowhere else for him to go as an ump in the ICC; he's at the summit & him being an Aussie means the Ashes & Oz/India are forever denied to him.

He was on radio this morning and basically said it is a bit of a beat up. He said his position this year is no different to what it is every year when his contract is renewed.
He did say that the IPL wouldn't be enough $ to replace a year's worth of work, and that the travel is a pain when he has a young family.

It's impossible for the human eye to be as good as technology, every year they come up with something new like the hot spot this year. AN umpire is on a hiding to nothing, if he gets it right thats expected and if he gets it wrong its shown 100 times an he is critisized and in Steve Bucknors case kicked out of a series and basically discredited. There will come a time when we will only need a hat stand at each end unless they stop the tv networks using technology that makes umpires look bad.

Why would anyone want to work with ICC if he/she had other options ? With the way ICC has been treating its umpires, one day will come when only puppets will be available for the job.
