Seen them in the flesh XI

Perm

Cricket Web: All-Time Legend
That's one of the more extraordinary posts I've ever seen on CW. Why not Perm?
No Test cricket in Dunedin for a while now, and generally ODIs aren't close enough for me to go to them. I'm hoping to attend a Test when Bangladesh play the Black Caps in Dunedin in January though.

In the same boat as Perm really. I aint in a big centre where the internationals are and my domestic side covers a big area so the games get shared around. Ideas involving mising school, driving car and watching live cricket have just occurred to me though.

Oh dear, Phlegm. No cricket up in the 'Naki then??

This is a tough one. So many games to choose from... I'd say:

Graham Gooch
Desmond Haynes
Mark Waugh
Aravinda de Silva
Martin Crowe
Richard Hadlee
Adam Gilchrist
Shane Warne
Malcolm Marshall
Curtley Ambrose
Waqar Younis

Current players who'd come close: Matthew Hayden, Jacques Kallis, Ricky Ponting
:-O

No Heath Davis?

Chubb

International Regular
Alastair Cook
Marcus Trescothick
Ricky Ponting
Kevin Pietersen
Andy Flower
Andrew Flintoff
James Foster
Shane Warne
Ray Price
Glenn McGrath
Mohammad Asif

2nd XI
Justin Langer
Andrew Strauss
Murray Goodwin
Paul Collingwood
Stuart Carlisle
Stuart Matsikenyeri
Tatenda Taibu
Heath Streak
Andrew Caddick
Zaheer Khan
Mustaq Ahmed

One time I went to watch Sanath Jayasuriya play for Somerset on a bleak day in April. He got a golden duck! It was the middle leg of a hattrick so it had some compensations.

The best innings I have ever seen in the flesh was played by Murray Goodwin at Chelmsford. Essex had scored 298, Sussex were 5 for not many and he scored 151* to single-handedly win the match.

Fair enough mate - just one of those assumptions that I expect someone with your cricketing love and knowledge to be a regular at internationals!

have pretty much seen everyone, I think.

Waiting to watch KP in action, though. :)

edit: to avoid some smartass replies, by "everyone" I meant "everyone of my favourites"... ;) :p

Never been to a Test before I don't think. Had a ticket once but that was for the WI v England match on the day Harmison struck gold. Thnkafully I decided not to go as it would have been a waste of time. Only other international match I've been to was the WC match between WI and Ireland.

This is a Test side, but I haven’t seen all of these players in a Test match – some were in ODIs or FC matches. Barry Richards is a bit of a cheat – I saw him play an exhibition game in Gladstone years ago. He was 40-odd and didn't get many, but I was at the ground and I saw him bat!

The top of my order might look even stronger if Greenidge had toured Australia in 83/84, but sadly rather than seeing Gordon Greenidge take our attack apart, I had the pleasure of watching Richard Gabriel look utterly out of his depth in international cricket.

Only four specialist bowlers, but considering my batting line-up I’ll cop that. GS Chappell at 6 says it all.

tbh, I think you can sacrifice one of your fab four in the middle order for an allrounder, mate... I had a tough time leaving out S Waugh and Ponting as well and even Inzy was in contention....

Fair comment, and had I seen any of the Big 4 from the 80s in the flesh they would have gone straight into the side. Was tempted therefore to have Kallis or S Waugh in the side for balance and as a much better 5th bowling option than Chappell or Viv, but I just couldn't resist the current combination. Kallis at 6 in place of (sadly) Greg Chappell would probably be a more realistic team.

yeah, I had thoughts of putting Kallis at 6 and Gilly at 7 in my team as well and leave out Flintoff for the same reasons.... But this is an imaginary XI and Flintoff has been good enough with the ball enough times for me to assume that he will be a good bowler when in full fitness and of course, his batting, given my top 6 was always going to be a bonus. Put Warney and Wasim there as well, along with McGrath and Ambrose and that is how I got my great side. :)

If that's the current XI then I'm having Larwood and Hammond in mine as my Grand Mother met both of them at Lords in 1932.

Very interesting how many people have Gary Kirsten. Most interesting common-point in this thread.
