Sachin Tendulkar and Jack Hobbs

You can't judge technique based on a brief clip of very poor quality. The cover drive does look weird but maybe there was some reason it was played that way. The game was so different back then especially with uncovered pitches. And the lofted drives looked OK to me.

If uncovered pitches should supposedly make things difficult, then how's he gonna score heaploads of runs with such a dodgy technique? Almost a 360 degree swing looks pretty ugly tbh.

It did look ugly but so do a lot of shots when batsmen are reaching out to score against very wide deliveries. But again you really can't judge a player from such a brief clip. For all we know, Hobbs may have just been having fun and playing unusual shots.

I'm not convinced those clips are any more than a series of posed photographs - like those old flicker books - there is some footage of Hobbs and Sutcliffe in the 1926 Ashes which is doubtless out there somewhere in which they look a couple of class acts, which of course they were

strange coincidence. after the third SA test tendulkar and hobbs average exactly the same 56.94. only, sachin has played almost thrice as many tests, which means he is three hobbses rolles into one. (and ofcourse sir jack scored his runs on uncovered wickets which were a lot harder to bat on).

JB Hobbs 61 102 7 5410 211 56.94 15 28 4
SR Tendulkar 177 290 32 14692 248* 56.94 51 59 14

what champions they both were... by modifying their natural attacking style to more effective accumulation they refused to fall victim to their own egos. not many can do that so well as these two.

That's exactly what they were. The guy who posted it on youtube says it's an animated vesion of a load of stills, so no wonder it looks odd.

Both the joint second greatest after Bradman(Sachin's longevity equals Hobbs' dominance over his peers in the pre war era and on sticky wickets, and Tendulkar's home away record+the high standard of bowling he faced equals Hobbs' mastery of some of the extremely varied and challenging conditions+the bowler dominated era(no safety regulations, poor bats, hostile bowlers, lax no ball rule etc)). Both are also the nicest possible blokes who played cricket.
