What is the second biggest prize in ODI cricket? Who won it and when? Which was the last big ODI tournament and who won it?
Your post implied that the World Cup win of 1992 should also be factored in when forming expectations of how Pakistan would perform in the knockouts. Would you say that's incorrect?

My post didn't just imply it explicitly mentioned that Pakistan won the 92 WC and 2017 CT. Given that Pak won the latest big ODI tournament barely 2 years ago humbling the likes of Kohli and Root in the process, they knew they could do it skillwise and had inspiration to draw from from the 92 WC. nZ, SA and eng don't.

For what it's worth - I'd like to point out that even if the NZ - Ind and Pak - SL matches did take place, Pakistan were not the favorite to make the semi finals.

Assume - India chance of winning over NZ (60%) , Pak chance of winning over SL (70%) - replace with other rational numbers if anyone prefers, these percentages seem fine to me.

India and Pakistan both win - 0.6 * 0.7 = 42%. All three other outcomes still have NZ making the semis because of their superior run rate, so yeah NZ were still the favorites.

Saying New Zealand don't deserve to be in Semi-Finals because Pakistan were a better team is no different than saying Pakistan didn't deserve to win Champions Trophy because India were clearly favourites. Now hand over the trophy.

STOP FEEDING HIM FURTHER PLEASE!!!! there is no point in arguing and this thread is already off track. Pakistani fans keep harping on 1992 and 2017 etc. let them. Who cares. That poster clearly does not care about rational discourse. Ignore and move on....Just like NZ have into the SF :) Let Pakistani fans wallow in their misery :) Perhaps they can enjoy some more posts of their players eating burgers and yawning at a mall in Dubai on their way back home. Can we get back to discussing the weather for the SF where 4 teams are actually playing!

India beating NZ was about 75 percent. Pakistan beating SL about 90 percent. Close to a 7 in 10 chance that both would have happened = very likely (or quite likely, whatever you want with semantics)

Why? The Pakistan team are always unpredictable, the lowest lows and the highest highs. When they are backed into a corner they always come back roaring. They don't have Australia's cricket structure or India's financial clout; hell they don't even get to play at home. Despite all these handicaps and fate seemingly conspiring against them, they find a way to rise again. Always.
And when they don't it is usually due to the brown envelopes stuffed with money being passed around. Pakistan ended where they deserved to, end of discussion.

Stick to the topic please. If we all started dragging each other's murky and shady pasts into this, it'll degenerate into a cesspit very quickly.

Just because you say end of discussion it doesn't mean it is the end of the discussion. Given the terrible English weather, scheduling, England whining to get the conditions they want, etc etc there is certainly room for argument.

Um, how else do you define that?

Yeah, if you define cesspool as a place where rational discussion is held then a thread involving you is certainly not that.

One where people argue in a civil manner, preferably without racist jokes about Peshawar like you in the other thread :)
Peshawar is a region not a race, hence that was not racist. Mods kindly rename this thread to Role of Amirfan in the thread thread. By this point, he has convinced me that if India lose on Tuesday due to rain interruptions, it wont be actual water but the collective tears of Pakistani fans.

Can we please get this thread back on track and talk about the impact the weather will have on both Semi Finals that do not include Pakistan.

It resulted in Pakistan becoming the best test team in the world. But the post was more about instances where Pakistan fought back when they were cornered.
my memory is faulty, please remind me what happened when the newly crowned best team in the world came down to nz?
