I'll rate him after he's faced the England seam attack when under pressure, or some top-quality spin under intense pressure.

So far he hasn't faced too much quality bowling.
isn't the SA attack of Pollock, Ntini & Nel quality?

Compared to the attack they faced in the Ashes, no.
I don't know about that SA's attack mainly their seamers are quality. They didn't cause Australia has much problems as England's bowlers but Australia batting on a few occassions in Australia came unstuck againts them & it took few top batting performances to give Australia good scores.

Overall i don't thik their is much separting England 5-man attack in the ashes to the S.African attack which Australia have been facing of late:

Pollock overall is better than Hoggard
Ntini is definately better than Harmison
Jones is slightly better than Nel
Freddie beats Kallis in his sleep
Gilo & Boje are pretty much even

Once Fletcher and his analysts have had a look at him, and the England attack have examined him over the winter, we'll know what he's made of.
You mean summer...

I will be interested to see how he goes in the Ashes as well. So far he has been brilliant in both forms of the game. What are his averages atm?

H, H, J, F & G as a unit >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> SA

Whatever it takes!!!
My cousin had an interesting take on Hussey. He said he would expect him to make a 40 odd on any wicket under any circumstance. I suppose most people would take that. :)

Hussey is a great prospect. In my opinion, if he batted higher he'd score more runs. I think he'd do fine against the best bowlers. He's just so damn comfortable and confident. He uses everything to his advantage. Having said that, he needs to play more and better teams (England) to truley make a mark. I have high hopes for him, I actually wish he'd have been picked a few years ago.

fair enough, but its the 2nd best attack he could have faced in his introduction to test cricket & he has done well. So to say the SA attack compared to england isn't quality aint right..

What?! Jones is a much better bowler than Nel.
For mine, I think it depends on the conditions. If the conditions are giving a little bit fo reverse Jones is miles ahead, but if they aren't they're closer to even than his Ashes series suggests, for mine anyway.

If I was bowling to him, here's what I'd try.

a) don't bowl a foot outside off-stump like Hoggard was doing, bowl a few inches outside off-stump so that there's a threat of an incoming delivery shackling him, and put a touch of outswing on it to see if dravid gets an edge

b) pitch it on his legs and get some outswing from there, meaning a ball pitching on the legs and moving towards off-stump ... slight chance he might miss the line when he flicks to leg, he loves that shot
So in other words, bowl to his strengths....... :D

Seriously, the way the Aussies shut him down on their last tour to India was to do just the opposite; bowl at the stumps coming back in off the pitch. Not only did they get him cheaply they stopped his scoring too.

As for Huss, it's a matter of time before we see the 'real' Hussey and he's already started to be figured out. Full-and-wide outside off-stump is where he's been nicking them of late which pretty-much is where he's historically gotten out in FC cricket. He's been hitting the ball well, yes, but I don't think it'll last.

Hussey has played England, in ODIs, which are not the same as tests obviously (please don't beat me up :) ), during the last tour, and I thought he was far and away the best bat in our ODI team during that tour. Although its comparing apples with oranges, he seemed much more comfortable against the English attack than any of the other Aussies, and it would be a reasonable conclusion that he'd carry something of that form into the test arena - as indeed he did in Australia.

I firmly agree with many of the Channel 4 commentators during that last Aust v. Eng ODI series that it was absolutely bewildering that Hussey wasn't included in the test squad. Furthermore, I'd say, especially as he would have been enjoying the honeymoon people are now saying he is enjoying, that had he been included in the Ashes instead of Katich or Clarke, Australia would have retained the Ashes.

I think he's a better fit than Clarke at 4, and i think he'll naturally slot in to replace whichever of Hayden or Langer retire first.

He's certainly my favourite cricketer at the moment. His execution of the middle order one day batsman's role is even better than Bevans - in that he is more able to switch from steady accumulation to attack - Bevan sometimes left the switch agonisingly late...

although that may be the case, i would also favour simon jones over andre nel on any track.
