*Official Third Test at Edgbaston

yet you don't see dead patches of grass on australian grounds, but there appears to be muddy bog on the outfield here.
Even with a drought, I daresay it's easier to water the turf with the desired amount of water than try to get an undesired and uncontrolled amount off it.

Lord's is amazingly good. We'd have been playing for most of the day there today. It stops raining, give it 10 mind and you're back out there.
Yep thought so, they have a new drainage system, as do cardiff, dissapointing that new drainage is not present at all English test venues. Rain is not preventable but this outfield flooding is !!

FFS pretty disgraceful this TBH. Whats the other english test venues drainage like ??
They should all be a lot better than Edgebaston..it has both a high water table and they postponed the drainage improvements that every one else has done as it would have interfered with other ground improvements.

Starting at 5pm! Purely motivated by a desire not to refund the public, absolutely no way were those run-ups fit. They'll just get churned up and will be a mess if there's any more rain.

Subject to 4.15pm inspection, though.

Its not that surprising really, we still have an hour and a bit in nearly ideal drying conditions, the July sun is very strong and whilst conditions aren't great they will continue to improve over the next hour as the sun is still quite strong.

However its still a worry for the weekend when more rain is progged to come.

Of course, it is a scandal. The ECB treat English fans with contempt but people think 75 quid is ok, so what can you do?

Finally a ray of hope for some cricket! That said, there's still 45 mins till the toss and plenty can happen, weather-wise, in that space of time, all subject to the inspection of course. At least we'll manage maybe an hour to two hours play (long enough to remove Watson should Australia bat first!).

Yeah, how dare people try to get some cricket on rather than a refund for there being no cricket on?

The decision is made by precisely no-one with anything to do with ECB heirachies.

AWTA, Ecb receives a flat staging fee from Warwickshire regardless of the rain etc. Insurance companies, and Warks through higher premiums are the ones who miss out.

Hobson's choice tho, innit? If you don't want to pay it there's plenty who will. Plus the small grounds creating an artificially high demand, etc...
