Its absurd really. People have made their mind up one way or other about vaccines. If Australia had said "no vaccine you can't play" at the start of this saga that would have been fine but they said if he had a medical exemption he could play and ultimately the exemption was fine.
We can criticise him for how he seems to have ignored the isolation period in Serbia, his stupid comments regarding health, vaccine and his all round obnoxiousness for the next 100000 years but ultimately he has been deported for "anti vax statements",,,,that leaves me very uncomfortable.
Anyway on the positive side, FAA has now gone from having a 0.00001 chance of winning this to a 0.0001 chance so swings and roundabouts.

There's loads of places on the tour where being vaccinated is a requirement for entry. If having Covid is his only reason for medical exemption he won't be playing a lot.

no consequences for tennis australia after their stupid "medical exemption" started this whole sordid saga i guess? also if djokovic hadn't tweeted in that obnoxious, preening way after he got the exemption thereby drawing attention to what had happened, i have a feeling he may slipped through the cracks and ended up playing the tournament...
I personally wouldn't have been fond of such a stance but yeah even if they had won the argument that Djokovic did not have a valid medical exemption than whilst I don't like the rules they have been consistent and Djokovic knew the rules and was deemed ineligible to participate according to those rules. Instead, they have made this into a big story by refusing him based on his medical exemption - then gone back and said actually we are happy to accept the medical exemption but Djokovic remaining would stir up anti-vaccine sentiment. Once you accept Djokovic's medical exemption was valid which the Australian government did then any stirring of anti-vaccine sentiment (I think its questionable if kicking him out stops that) is on the Australian government. They made a big story out of a player travelling to Australia who they were willing to concede had a valid medical exemption.Its absurd really. In terms of his comments, Tsitsipas made a very similar comment to Djokovic on the Covid 19 vaccine, the main difference being Tsitsipas saying he'd only take it if it was mandatory on the ATP tour, Djokovic saying he'd "have to make a decision" if vaccination become compulsory.
I agree that his decision to ignore the isolation period in Serbia, even things like the Adria Tour certainly are a bad look. Although in many ways that makes me like the decision even less - in the sense he can host a tour that sees many competitors get Covid whilst ATP tour is on pause due to Covid, he can ignore isolation periods in Serbia but the Australian government are not letting him in due to his vaccine status despite accepting he "poses a negligible threat of infecting others".
Just come across this from a few days ago - not been the best start for the Australian Open generally.
That would be one positive, would like to see a FAA win in some ways - in other ways perhaps not - just as I won't be following much (less free time than prior years/time zones/saga dulling any pre-tournament buzz) - but as you suggest with no Djokovic probably his best chance in the short-term. He lied about having not isolated and then admitted it only after being found out, and then blamed his agent for ticking a wrong box. Absolutely wretched man. The fact that the government also look like buffoons is a bonus.

They didn't do anything wrong tbh. They basically told him "if you can get here we'll let you play in our tournament". He interpretated that as "this gives me a right to get into australia", which is idiotic, and all on him
Even Tennis Australia don't say that - their statement was "Novak Djokovic will compete at the Australian Open and is on his way to Australia. Djokovic applied for a medical exemption which was granted following a rigorous review process involving two separate independent panels of medical experts."
Judge Anthony Kelly who ruled in Djokovic's favour during the first appeal is quoted as saying the following
"Here, a professor and an eminently qualified physician have produced and provided to the applicant a medical exemption,"
"Further to that, that medical exemption and the basis on which it was given was separately given by a further independent expert specialist panel established by the Victorian state government and that document was in the hands of the delegate."
Noteworthy too that the Immigration Minister decided to abandon arguing about Djokovic's medical exemption in Djokovic's 2nd appeal.

He still lied to get the exemption. If the photos of that sponsorship thing he did hadn’t come to light he’d still be lying.

Tennis Australia doesn't have any jurisdiction to allow/deny people entry to Australia. They have about as much authority to make such decisions as I do.
The reason why the medical exemption wasn't mentioned in the second appeal is the same reason the level select code for Sonic the Hedgehog wasn't mentioned (i.e. it was completely irrelevant to the decision at hand).

I'me all for freedom on if someone wants a vaccination, but to lie is inexcusable in this context. Plus I don't like Djokovic so who cares if he is in the open or not
