Should Vishwa Fernando have been on this tour, YL?

I've only seen about five balls of him (Henry Nicholls was playing and missing outswingers to the left-hander). He did seem to swing and seam the ball every delivery though.

The 17-man squad features seven batsmen, three wicketkeeper-batsmen, five fast bowlers and two spinners and consists of the regular core of players plus a few newcomers who will be there for the experience.

It is certainly tough on young players when they are included in a 20-man squad and then find they ultimately lose out to players who are parachuted into the final squad. Of the original squad, four players lose out – opener Tharanga Paranavithana, legspinner Jeffrey Vandersay and fast bowlers Kasun Rajitha and Vishwa Fernando.

Interesting how a nation we think of as cash-strapped like Sri Lanka tours England with 17 men. The frugal accountancy and logistics men in New Zealand never go higher than 15, and often dice with playing Andrew Mathieson in series deciders, or Ronchi as a specialist batsman.

Yeah that guy Jayasundera didn't look too good here in New Zealand. Kusal Mendis definitely the closest to looking the part of the top-order batsmen they blooded on that late 2015 tour.

Please to hear Chameera didn't bowl as tamely against Leics as his figures suggested -

As for the pace attack, Chameera built up a good head of steam. His lack of control early on allowed Leicestershire openers Hill and Angus Robson to use the pace on the ball to time a few fours through cover and midwicket to get their innings started. But once Chameera settled into a groove, he was able to get extra bounce from a pitch that had started to keep low. Any edges he did find shot through the slips and went for four after landing short of the catchers, who seemed unwilling to position themselves further forward.

I'll be honest Kippax, I don't really know that much about him - maybe Migara or PrinceEWS can answer that one? I know that as well as VF, Binura Fernando is being talked about quite a bit and being 6"7, is quite unusual for a SL bowler and always handy to have a leftie too ! Personally I would like to see more from Eranga as I have always rated him but he has never been the same since his last injury for me..
As for you talking about 17 members of the squad touring, don't forget there will probably be about 20 "officials" from the board here to "oversee" the tour **coughs* free holiday..

I reckon we are best off preparing good batting decks for this series. Would think Broad/Jimmy/Finn are still going to knock over the Lankans on good batting decks. If the pitches are green seamers though there is every chance we could collapse in a heap and cost us matches.

I thought Vishwa could be a bit of an inspired horses for courses pick for this tour when I saw him bowl last season in New Zealand, but despite looking okay he didn't really put the numbers up in either domestic cricket or for Sri Lanka A in the season just gone. The Sri Lankan coaching setup definitely seem weirdly confident in the incumbent fast bowlers so I think he would've needed to do something special to get in.

How does Bairsyow go to Moeen? I've only seen him keep a couple times and he was ok, his footwork seemed passable
