*Official* South Africa in West Indies

Reckon Windie Weathers might be quietly backing the home team
You might be surprised but i don't have blind faith you know!! , i just think it could go either way, we'll either get embarrassed or we'll give them hell, it just depends on what WI turn up, the one who took England apart at Sabina park or the one who couldn't be bothered in the first test against the Aussies last Decemeber? i guess well see,

Darren Bravo is in brilliant form and he must be close to a call up now, him along with Barath, Brathwaite, Chesney Hughes and Kiaran Powell will give us one hell of a top order in the next three or four years, also Nelon Pascal and Shillingford must be close too, with Wicketkeeper Chadwick Walton also doing well, Gibbo and the selectors have got some decent options now so it's up to them to get it right this time.

Who was it that lost lots of money when England lost the series in West Indies?

Anyway whoever that was, I could be that guy in 2010, because I'll be putting a fair bit on SA for the tests I reckon.
It may be me you were thinking of- I didn't lose any money because my medium-sized bet was mysteriously refunded- lost all remaining dignity, though...

Hope to see Amla play in the ODI's. Whenever hes been called in to fill in a spot hes done well, surprised he hasn't been given a steady run in the side.

FFS, must you turn every thread into a conversation about the West Indies?

I'm looking forward to the Tests. It might very well prove to be a hard fought, tight series. I guess it comes down to Steyn's form. If WI can handle him, they should be able to score big totals.

The WI attack looks strong with Taylor, Roach, Bravo and Benn. On a spinning track, Gayle might be useful. I'm not so sure WI should pick another bowler. Mayeb give Sammy a chance? I've always been impressed by Sammy, but I seem to be a bit alone with that opinion.

WI:
-Gayle
-Barath
-Sarwan
-Chanders
-Nash
-Bravo
-Ramdin
-Sammy
-Taylor
-Benn
-Roach

I guess it will a specialist for Sammy though. Deonarine or Darren Bravo, or maybe another bowler. But I don't think there is another Test specialist bowler available atm.

I think Gibson is more likely to go with another bowler than risk Sammy, South Africa could take the game away from us if we aren't on form with the ball, someone like Nelon Pascal probably, also think Darren Bravo may force his way into the side after his brilliant performances for the A-team recently, Shillingford and Walton may also pose serious threats to Benn and Ramdin's positions too, i guess that's why they haven't named the Test side yet, they are considering all the options.

I don't see Sammy making the Test side - he's more likely to be used in the shorter form of the game.

Darren Bravo is currently playing in Bangladesh for the A team, as some of you guys know, and is unlikely to get into the ODI side in the Caribbean for that reason. But I wouldn't be surprised if he's named to the Test squad, for when that series starts in June. That said, I think he's behind Deonarine in the pecking order. But it should just be a matter of time before he gets a shot....

Amla for the 20/20 side. WTF is that about? And all of sundry talking about the end of the Proteas era, new blood coming in but the side looks the same as the one that was smashed in India and humbled by England.

What’s more they call up Miller, finally a cricketer with a S/R the right side of 150 but apparently he won’t be playing tomorrow.

Though South Africa will probably waltz this tour - no pressure but it would be great if they royally ****ed up in the limited overs stuff and real change was implemented before the WC.

Loving this call.. Gibbs is past it, surely, and Albie Morkel is one of my least favourite players ever..
I like Albie but his comments regarding pressure and not being able to live with (realistic) expectations should be the death knell for him. No South African supporter is expecting miracles but most of the side fancy themselves big time and love to talk it up, so they should only expect the fans to turn on them. Just a shame they didn’t have time to go home before the Windies tour, looks like the South African media and fans are baying for some blood.

Why did they select Kallis, Gibbs, and JP for the World T20? No captain can do anything with those players in a T20 match.

Picking Miller is a right thing to do but they're still sticking with Kallis and JP. JP should be dropped in all forms of the game. Kallis shouldn't be in the T20 squad.

"Watch out for...
Albie Morkel showed glimpses of his hard-hitting ability when he smacked five sixes in an 18-ball 40 against New Zealand, but he was a frustrated spectator for much of the campaign, waiting in the dug-out for a chance to swing his bat while the top order ate up too many deliveries. If South Africa want to reboot their Twenty20 prospects, they could do worse than shove him up to No. 5."

Looks like Cricinfo forgot that Albie isn’t in the squad or indeed the Caribbean.

He is a popular player in SA, no doubt about that.. I personally think he is a buffet bowler and a very naive batsman.. Okay he had a good knock against the Kiwis, but lest we forget against England he was made to look like a complete turkey by Yardy of all people.. The more I think about him, the less I rate him.. It annoys me that people are mainly calling for van der Merwe to get the axe, without realising we are carrying far worse passengers..

First big decision made by the new selection committee has been to ditch Boucher. More changes are expected to follow. Steve Miller Band has visa problems but should arrive sometime this week.

“AB (de Villiers) will be starting with the gloves in the limited overs matches,” commented Smith. “There is a new selection committee and a few new ideas. We only have something like 15 ODIs before we get to India for the World Cup, so we have to make every one of them count.”

Once again cricinfo is uninformed.
